Principal's Report

Welcome back to what promises to be a busy and rewarding Term 3. I hope all students, families, and staff had the chance to enjoy some rest and reset over the break.

Although this term is only 9 weeks in length, it is full of opportunity and importance—particularly as we begin the planning process for 2026 through our subject selection program. For students in Years 9, 10, and 11, the choices made this term will shape pathways and open doors for next year and beyond.

We strongly encourage all parents and students to attend the upcoming information sessions and actively engage in the subject selection process. These sessions are designed to support informed decision-making and ensure that every student selects subjects that reflect their interests, goals, and strengths.

Term 3 will also see continued learning across all year levels, co-curricular opportunities, and community events that further enrich the experience at Belmont High School. We look forward to seeing our students strive for the highest and embrace all that this term has to offer.

State Cross Country Success

A huge congratulations to the seven Belmont High School students who represented our school with pride at the State Cross Country Championships yesterday at Yarra Valley Racecourse.

All our athletes demonstrated resilience, determination, and sportsmanship on what was a challenging course. A special mention must go to Poppy Nivarovich, who claimed an outstanding 2nd place in the Senior Girls 3km event. Poppy also teamed up with Phoebe Edwards and Scarlett Knight to secure 2nd place in the Senior Girls Team event—a phenomenal achievement!

We are incredibly proud of the efforts of all our competitors:

  • Lilian Creasey – 14 Years Girls 3km
  • Paige Randell – 14 Years Girls 3km
  • Ella Boyce – 15 Years Girls 3km
  • Oscar Dyson – 16 Years Boys 5km

Well done to all our athletes—you have done yourselves and the school proud.

Students of the Month

At Belmont High School we will be celebrating our students who display excellent learning behaviours with a regular “Student of the Month” award. There will be one Student of the Month per year level, twice per term. Student reports will be used to create a shortlist for teachers to consider against the below criteria:

  • Student shows exceptional application in class and overall effort towards their studies.
  • Student has a positive attitude towards learning, their classes and the school.
  • Student is always ready to learn by being in correct uniform, having all required materials and rarely needs to leave class.
  • Student may show some leadership qualities in the classroom.
  • Student’s academic performance is very good OR they have shown great growth in this area over time.

I’m pleased to announce the students of the month for June were:

Year 7 – Johanna Kosanke

Year 8 – Isobel Smith

Year 9 – Sarthak Negi

Year 10 – Lisette Dyer

Year 11 – Ruby Masters

Year 12 – Declan Chandler

Urgent Safety Reminder – Drop-Off and Pick-Up Times

The safety of our students is always our top priority. I want to issue an important reminder to all families about exercising extra caution during school drop-off and pick-up times.

We have had a number of recent near misses involving both vehicles and students, particularly in the areas around Rotherham Street and Digby Avenue. These incidents highlight the need for increased awareness from both drivers and pedestrians during these busy times of the day.

I continue to work with the City of Greater Geelong to explore improvements to the current traffic arrangements, which we know are far from ideal. In the meantime, we are asking for your cooperation in keeping our community safe.

Please:

  • Drive slowly and carefully near the school
  • Avoid double-parking or stopping in unsafe zones
  • Use designated drop-off areas where possible
  • Remind your children to stop, look, and listen before crossing roads
  • Encourage safe walking and riding behaviours when travelling to and from school

Let’s all play our part in ensuring a safe environment for every member of the Belmont High School community.

New uniform options

We are pleased to inform you that the new uniform options of a navy blue vest and puffer jacket (with school logo) are now in-store and available for purchase.

Kind regards,

Joshua Baker
