Human Powered Racing Update

RACE DAY

Saturday the 21st of October, saw MPS Racing compete in their very first Human Powered Vehicle race. The MPS Racing team have been training since Term 1, improving their fitness, constructing and designing our trikes, involving the whole school in the naming of our trikes and learning the ins and outs of racing.

The 19 students that participated in the Victorian Human Powered Grand Prix Series are the inaugural team that made history on the weekend for Malvern Primary School. Their dedication, teamwork and persistence all paid off and it was incredible to watch the students work collaboratively to complete the race. In the pits, they were extremely supportive of each other, assisting and problem solving throughout the day. For the first time these students have been in a racing environment, with high pressure conditions, we are so proud of the way they conducted themselves and represented our school.

Our two trikes, Spitfire and Vision looked incredible on the track. Thank you to our sponsors and school community for making it possible to purchase and construct them. Vision finished in 13th place, whilst Spitfire finished in 17th place. An amazing effort from all riders and pit crew.

We now turn our attention to our next race, Maryborough. Training will continue every Thursday after school for our team, while they work on the presentation and scrutineering process that will take place at Maryborough. Each member of the team will make a contribution to the presentation and will go through an extensive scrutineering process before the races. The HPV process goes for 1-1.5 hours with lots of questions and practical discussions for which they will have to answer and have informal discussions with a range of judges. With lots of work to do over the next four weeks, the MPS Racing Team students could not be more excited to prepare for the biggest Human Powered event of the year.

Thank you to all the parents who supported the event on Saturday, as well as our sponsors who helped make this program possible. This is only the beginning of a very exciting journey for Malvern Primary School’s participation in Human Powered Racing.
