Primary School News

Mr Michael Connolly, Head of Primary School

Dear Parents,

At our Primary Awards Assembly in the Draney Theatre today, I spoke to the boys about being part of a community here in the Primary School. We unveiled our ‘Ubuntu’ mural this week and explained to the boys what this word means for us as a group. It is my hope that the boys understand the importance and value of being connected with those around us in the real world here at Marist College, rather than relying on the online world as a place to make connections. I explained to the boys that, ‘we are who we are, because of each other’ and that as a group, we can be the best version of ourselves. I shared a simple video with the boys that told the story of Ubuntu so the boys understood the concept as It’s not about Me, It’s not about YOU, It’s about US!!

Last week during our Day for Daniel activities, the boys were commended on the behaviour and sense of occasion by the presenter of the safety talk, as well as the secondary teacher coordinating the presentation. This was a real-life example for the boys that, when they work together as a group to do their best, people notice, and all of them can share in those feelings of pride and accomplishment that come with achieving something as a group.

Our challenge now is to work together, as a primary community, to achieve what is best for everyone.
