Willy Kids are Responsible

Weeks 7 & 8: Willy Kids are Leaders

Willy Kids are Leaders.

What does it mean when we talk about leadership?  Who are leaders and what do they do?  Are there different types of leaders?  How do we become good leaders?

These are some of the questions that people often think about when they think of leadership. People of all ages often talk about leadership. Who are leaders? Is it the captain of the team? Is it the fastest runner? The best artist?

Leaders can be all sorts of people. They might be the best at something but being good at something doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be a leader. So if they are not necessarily the best, what are they? It might be the person who helps organise a game, or the person who helps everyone get started on a task, or even the person who helps sort out problems in a group. Leaders are good listeners who are responsive to the needs of a group. They are fair to everyone and ensure everyone has their say. Good leaders help everyone work towards a common goal.

Being a leader has its benefits; it allows you to develop life long skills such as:

  • Problem solving
  • Relationship building
  • Conflict resolution
  • Confidence in front of others
  • Assertiveness
  • Cooperation

These are all qualities that will guide you throughout your life and be looked upon favourably by others. We look to our Willy Kids to step up as leaders to inspire others!
