Wellbeing and Inclusion

at Willy

Dear families,

The excitement is building amongst the students as the most anticipated event on the school calendar is just around the corner. Yes, the school disco is happening again, next Thursday 16th November.

The PE Hall will be transformed into a themed discotheque by the work of our student disco committee, and our very own ‘DJ Kitchen’ will pump out tunes based on a playlist curated by our Willy Kids. The theme of course, is a secret and will be revealed as the students step through into the hall.

The disco experience provides the opportunity for our kids to sing, dance, have fun, and express themselves through dance and movement.

Recognising that this environment is fabulous for lots of our kids, for some students, the lights and sounds of such an environment can be very overwhelming.

As we did last year, we will create a break-out space in the library for students to access throughout the night if they need a break from the stimulated disco environment. This will consist of comfy cushions, dimple pads, water timers, headphones, fabric marble mazes, plastic spikey rings, massage rollers, weighted blankets, stacking blocks and many more sensory items for kids to engage with.

Some students may spend a significant amount of the night there, others may use it as a time to reset before heading back into the disco.

As always at Willy Primary, our goal is to provide an environment and learning program that is inclusive and supportive for all our students.

Hoping that in the lead-up to this event, you can all pop on a few of your favourite tunes this weekend and dance around the house together!

Kind regards,
