Hello to all our families!

We had a really fantastic morning this morning as our 2024 prep students attended their first formal transition session at our school. The front of the school was buzzing as parents and students tried on uniforms before making their way towards the stone building. We have 39 preps enrolments on our books to date, and we had so much fun this morning, getting to know them. It is so great to see our community growing and coming alive this morning. The session was very successful, and we are looking forward to next Friday's transition.

Christmas Carols at WPS

We are changing up the the carol's this year to perform at Stiggant's Reserve. This decision was made partly to do with the size of the stage at Stiggant's being larger and partly because the stage is undercover. Last year we cancelled due to heavy rain and then found the following week was too hot, with the sun blazing down on us. This way we can be sure the students will be able to perform regardless of the weather, unless we have a huge storm.

Thursday, 7th December, arrive at 6pm for a 6:30pm start. The performances will include;

 • Year 5/6 Bush Band led by Kevin O’Mara

• A short play based on Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ performed by the Year 6s with Prep-3 support ensemble

• Festive songs to sing along to featuring our Prep – Year 6 students

There will be FOWPS there and Food Trucks but you are also welcome to bring your own food and drinks along to enjoy during the performances.

This carol's will be the final performance that Kevin O'Mara gives as he hangs up his guitar. We will be taking the opportunity to acknowledge the retirement of Kevin O'Mara after 40 years of running the WPS iconic Bushband. Kevin has asked that we keep our plans simple, and we will respect his wishes. However, we will be providing him with a gift and a heartfelt thanks from all his current and past students for sharing his passion with us for 4 decades.  We hope to see you all there as we say goodbye to Kevin.

Bendigo Bank Sponsors Night

On Monday WPS was asked to present at the Bendigo Bank's Sponsors evening and talk about the impact money given to us by the bank has had on the students in grades 4/5 since the renovations have been completed. We had Archie P, Jai P and Isla W all write and deliver a wonderful speech. They represented our school proudly and I have been told they were the 'highlight of the evening' due to their obvious passion and confidence when speaking.  I would like to thank these 3 students and their parents for supporting our school and the Bendigo Bank, who have given a lot of money to WPS over the years. The night celebrated over $5million dollars being given back by Bendigo Bank of Warrandyte to the local community since its opening.

Grade 1/2 Excursion to Vanilla Orchard

This week as part of their Inquiry unit into celebrations around the world the grade 1 and 2 students walked down to our local Thai restaurant, Vanilla Orchard, to have lunch. As part of the preparation for this excursion, the student did a practice run at school and learned the etiquette for eating at a table and in a restaurant. I arrived as they were enjoying their main course, and it was really wonderful to see them all enjoying themselves as they ate together and shared conversations with the people around them. They all challenged themselves to try new things and I am happy to say their table manner were outstanding.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Take care,

Nieta
