Head Start

Our Head Start program has commenced with a mix of enthusiasm and nerves as students new to the campus settle into the young adult environment and learn where their classes are located.

We have welcomed more than 160 new students to the campus, most coming from our junior campuses in Morwell and Churchill, with an increasing number coming from other schools to the University campus for their senior studies. Head Start is an important opportunity to become aware of the expectations of the campus and classes, meet the staff and fellow students, as well as engage early with the learning of each student’s particular course. It has been great to see everyone making a positive start in preparing for next year.

Farewell Geoff Block

University Campus Principal Geoff Block will be retiring at the end of the year after a long and distinguished career in education, especially at Kurnai College. Geoff has significantly contributed to the college over many years as a teacher of English and in leading the development of senior programs such as VCAL, and more recently, the International program that has seen scores of international students study at Kurnai. Most of his career has been spent in leadership roles at various levels across the college, culminating with over a decade as University Campus principal. We wish Geoff all the very best in his retirement and thank him for the lasting legacy he has left, not just on the college, but also on the multitude of students and staff he has supported during his career.

Gumbuya World

To celebrate the efforts and achievements of 2023, the college is taking all students and staff to Gumbuya World on Wednesday, December 13th. Students are required to be at their 2023 campus for their normal start time; however, please note they will not be returning to school until approximately 4:00 pm. Students new to Kurnai College are very welcome and encouraged to attend.

There is no cost for this event, and lunch will be provided. Permission to attend the day can be completed on Compass.

College Awards

The Kurnai College Awards ceremony for 2023 will be held on Friday, December 15th, in the auditorium at Federation University, and we look forward to acknowledging the efforts and achievements of students from across all campuses of the College.

Finally, on behalf of the University campus staff, we wish everyone a joyous and safe holiday period and look forward to the start of an exciting year of learning and achievement in 2024!
