Diocesan Basketball, Leeroi receives a NSWCPS Sport Award, Phillies Touch Football
On Tuesday 14 November, our St Philomena's Secondary Basketball teams travelled to Tamworth to compete at the Diocesan Basketball Competition.
Beyond the scores, our basketball teams exemplified the true spirit of sportsmanship and unity, playing against some tough competition. The camaraderie among players was evident both on and off the court, fostering an environment of mutual support and encouragement.
Congratulations to all of our basketball players, well done!
On Monday 13 November, Leeroi travelled to Sydney to the Inaugural NSWCPS Sport Awards held at Our Lady of Fatima School, Caringbah.
Leeroi was selected as the recipient of NSWCPS Maroon Award for his Rugby League exploits earlier in the year. These prestigious awards recognise the top percentage of students who have been outstanding in their sport across all Catholic Primary Schools in NSW.
Below you will find the citation that outlines Leeroi's sporting achievements:
In 2023, Leeroi demonstrated an exceptional level of skill as a top-tier athlete, representing the Diocese of Armidale in Rugby League, Athletics and Rugby Union. Leeroi was a member of the Polding 12 Years Rugby League team, who competed at the NSWPSSA state championships in Wagga Wagga. With an unwavering dedication for the sport of Rugby League, Leeori helped his team to finish 7th place at the championships, and secured himself a spot in the NSWPSSA 12 years Rugby League team. Leeroi went on to compete with the NSWPSSA team at the School Sport Australia championships in Townsville, where they triumphed with a first-place finish.
Leeroi’s respectful and modest demeanour instantly endeared him to the rest of the team, who sought his guidance and leadership. He displays an impressive combination of skill, sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork. His extraordinary dedication to his team is evident as he consistently goes above and beyond to support his fellow teammates, both on and off the field.
Considering his remarkable leadership skills, sportsmanship, and unwavering commitment, Leeroi is a truly deserving recipient of the 2023 NSWCPS Maroon Award for Rugby League.
Congratulations on an outstanding achievement, Leeroi!
