Foundation

The Foundation students have been building lots of different structures during Discovery time, and today they shared their knowledge and skills with friends during lunchtime! Working together collaboratively, the students recreated the Hollywood sign using wooden building blocks. With our school concert approaching, it's quite fitting that the students are recreating Hollywood in Preston!

"I like Hollywood" - Luca

"Everyone likes Hollywood. I haven't been to Hollywood but I think it's a nice place" - Valentino

Measuring Items In Our Classroom!

In our Numeracy sessions this week, we have been learning about measurement; particularly how to use informal units to measure and compare the lengths of items in our classroom. After unpacking what some new words mean, such as, 'compare', 'measurement' and 'informal units', it was time to apply these 5 important rules to our measuring tasks:

  1. Choose one appropriate unit that will remain the same (size, shape, etc)
  2. Determine an appropriate starting point and end point
  3.  Measure in a straight line
  4. Measure without overlaps or gaps
  5. Take care and double check when counting

Home Challenge:

Can you find an item in your home that is 12 Lego pieces long?

Can you find an item in your home that is 3 hand spans long?

Can you find an item in your home that is 10 paper clips long?

Year 2/3

We liked going for a walk and looking at the painting of Bunjil and we saw how colorful it was. We saw Bunjil with lots of feathers and the feathers were scattered around. It was a sunny day when we saw Bunjil and took a photo of the class.     Christopher and Eva

Last week we went to see the painting of Bunjil and we found out that Bunjil made people out of clay. Bunjil first made the animals bigger than their usual size. Bunjil ha a ceremony after he made something like people or plants or animals.     Emma

In R.E. we listened to a Dreamtime story about Creation an who made the heavens and the earth. We learnt that Bunjil created the heavens and the earth. Bunjil was a wedge-tailed eagle. I liked this story because it was really interesting.     Kushi

Bunjil made the plants and the trees an the red land. Bunjil made people from clay. Bunjil mae the seas . He made man and woman. Bunjil watched over everything that he had made.    Arvin and Cody

Year 3/4  Italian

Ciao a tutti,

In Italian, the grade 3 and 4 students are not only learning to speak a new language but are also delving into the traditions and culture of the Italian people. The students are learning all about the Tarantella (The tarantula spider dance) The dance was used as a form of therapy for individuals believed to be bitten by a tarantula spider. The music and dance were thought to help rid the venom from their bodies. While the notion of spider venom may be a thing of the past, the Tarantella has lived on as a cherished tradition in Italian culture. The students enjoyed trying out this lively folk dance, famous for its energetic, rhythmic footwork and celebratory spirit. This dance originated in southern Italy, particularly in the regions of Campania, Calabria and Sicily.

Art / Optical Illusion  By Jasmine

Woahhhhh this makes me confused!!! In art we are learning how to make optical illusions pictures. It's really fun but it also makes me dizzy looking at it. First we got a big piece of paper, then got a ruler and a pencil/rubber. We used a ruler to help us make straight lines but the lines needed to be on a specific angle. Secondly, after we finished the drawing we chose 2 or more colours and we coloured in our pictures.

I know for sure if you gave it a try it would be lots of fun instead of going on technology.
