Year 7 & 8 in 2024 Parent Information Evening - 7pm, Tuesday 24 October

There will be an Information Evening on Tuesday 24 October for parents and guardians of students commencing Year 7 and 8 in 2024. The evening will run from 7.00pm until 8.30pm and will be held in The Farrall Centre, 395 Argyle Street, North Hobart.   This is a valuable opportunity for both current and new parents to learn more about our Year 7 & 8 programs and to meet key staff members and other parents. Presentations will include information about the curricular and co-curricular programs, our Quaker values and pastoral care. There will also be current Year 7 students sharing some of their experiences and plans for the next year.

Vacation Care for Friday 27 October

As the School will not be operating on Friday 27 October due to the Hobart Show Weekend, a Vacation Care Day for children in Kindergarten to Year 6 is being provided for families that require this service. On this day we will be going on a treasure hunt, exploring the great outdoors and finding a list of different items. You will be amazed at what you can find using your detective skills! Assembly

The next Morris Assembly will take place on Monday 6 November. As The Farrall Centre is unavailable due to the TCE Art Exhibition the assembly will take place outside in the grounds and will commence at 2.15pm. We welcome families to attend.

Grandparents and Older Friends’ Day

Tuesday 24 October

Grandparents and Older Friends’ Day will be held on Tuesday 24 October. The day will include outside learning displays, music performances and a light morning tea.

 

This year the event will be ticketed and will take place in the school grounds over separate sessions:

  • Kindergarten family and friends will gather in the Kindergarten grounds from 9.00-10am. 
  • Prep - Year 2 family and friends will gather behind the Wells classrooms from 9.00-10am. 
  • Years 3 - 6 family and friends will meet outside the Walpole area between 10-11.00am. 
  • Morning tea for all visitors will be outside The Farrall Centre from 9.30-10.30am. 

 

We will be offering a shuttle bus service from the Hobart Hockey Centre, Bell Street. Please make sure to book a separate ticket for this if you would like to book this service. If you have any queries or specific requirements please contact the Morris Office on 6210 2228.

Year 5 Excursion to the Museum of Old & New Art (MONA)

Friday 10 November

On Friday 10 November, Year 5 students are travelling to the Museum of Old & New Art (MONA) as a provocation for their final Inquiry, How we express ourselves. Students will explore the central idea, “Creative thinking unlocks a world of possibilities” as they look at different elements and purposes of art, consider perspective and react to different art works. Students will leave school at 9.30am and travel to MONA by bus, returning at approximately 3.10pm. Full sports uniform is required, as well as a hat, water bottle, morning tea and lunch. No lunch orders on this day.

 

Parents are welcome to attend if they have a current Working with Vulnerable People card, however, they need to make their own way there and back. Note that for all Friends’ School volunteer activities you will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form. Please contact your class teacher if you are interested in accompanying the students on this day.

Year 4 Camps

Wednesday 15 - Friday 17 November (one night each class)

On Wednesday 15 November the Year 4OA class will be travelling to Orana for an overnight camp, returning on Thursday 16 November. On Thursday, 16 November Year 4K class will be travelling to Orana for their overnight camp and will return on Friday, 17 November. Both classes aim to achieve similar outcomes from their camp experience. Additional information about the camp will be sent through Operoo, where parents are expected to complete a permission form for their child. We are looking forward to this overnight experience with the Year 4 classes.
