From the

Leader of Year 11 Wellbeing

Mr Peter Robertson

A big welcome to all our new Year 11 students and their parents/guardians for 2024!  We have hit the ground running and already the year has become so busy. Our young men and women are getting used to a new school campus here in Cronulla, a new name in St Aloysius College, a new uniform and a new educational context in the transition to post-compulsory senior studies.

So far I have been impressed with the way in which they have stepped up- in the classroom, the playground and in the general day to day activities of the college. They have done so with a minimum of fuss, a friendly cooperative approach and a generally adult manner.

This week, Year 11 has demonstrated outstanding maturity and engagement at the full school Assembly, the Brent Sanders ‘Consent‘ presentations and the Opening Mass/Awards Ceremony at the church. This is a positive sign moving forward for their preliminary year.

We must remember that Year 11 is actually only three terms long. The Year 12 HSC course begins in October (Term 4) so unless students are organised and applying themselves to their homework and study from the get go, they will struggle to meet the academic expectations and achieve their potential best this time next year. These issues will be raised at the upcoming Year 11 Information Night advertised on Compass.

If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me here at the college by phone or email. I look forward to navigating the senior journey with your son/daughter over the next eighteen months. It’s all about helping them to meet their goals and use their gifts and talents in the most productive and constructive way, ready to embark on the next phase of their life post-school. The time really does go so quickly so it is up to each student to seize the opportunities presented to them and make the most of things.

There are no problems, only solutions! I look forward to meeting some of you soon.
