Success Criteria

Empowering Our Young People’s Learning Journey
As Term 3 comes to a close, it's important to refocus on the role of Learning Intentions and Success Criteria at St Joseph’s. These remain central to how we support our young people in becoming more confident, independent, and engaged learners.
Think of learning intentions as the "what" and "why" of a lesson. They clearly state what the students will be learning and the purpose behind it. This helps young people understand the goal of the activity. Success criteria, on the other hand, are the 'how.' They outline the specific steps or features of a successful outcome. These clear guidelines help our young people know exactly what they need to do to achieve their goal.
When our young people know the learning intention and success criteria, they become active participants in their learning, not just passive recipients. They can 'buy into' the learning because they understand the purpose and how to achieve it.
