Principal's Message

The Importance of Learner Leadership

As we come to the end of Term 3, I would like to take a moment to celebrate the outstanding leadership we are seeing across our school. Leadership is not just about wearing a badge; it is about service, commitment, following through on promises, and being willing to learn from our mistakes.

Our Year 6 leaders have been exemplary in this regard. Last year, they stood before their peers and campaigned on their ideas to strengthen our school community. It has been inspiring to watch them bring those words to life—from fundraising efforts dedicated to improving school resources, supporting the younger years, to leading from the front in sport and other extracurricular activities. Their actions remind us all that leadership requires integrity and dedication.

At the same time, our Year 5 young people are stepping forward, beginning to show the qualities of leaders in their own right. They are observing, learning, and practising the skills that will prepare them to take on formal leadership roles next year. From assisting with school events to modelling kindness in the playground, they are laying the foundation for future success. Looking ahead, Term 4 will be an especially exciting time as our Year 5 young people begin preparing their leadership speeches in readiness for school captain elections for 2026.

It is also important to remember that leadership does not always come with a title. Across all year levels, we see our young people leading quietly and confidently—in the way they care for their friends, manage challenges with resilience, and show respect in their interactions with our skilled helpful adults. These everyday actions are powerful examples of leadership that shape the tone and culture of our school.

We are very proud of the way our young people continue to grow as leaders. Their commitment to making a positive difference ensures St Joseph's remains a place of respect, responsibility, and care for one another.
