PBL
At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:
Respect,
Responsibility and
Kindness
This week in our weekly PBL social skills lesson, we have focused on child safety after celebrating National Child safety week. Child safety is everyone’s business and the children learnt about some protective behaviours to help them if they feel unsafe at school. This week’s expectation is RESPONSIBILITY: Be safe.
We unpacked the basic rights around child safety that the children have at school, which are:
We discussed what personal space is and that we need to respect the boundaries others put in place when they ask us to stop doing something that makes them feel uncomfortable.
We discussed other ways to be safe including, body safety and no one has the rights to touch as and make us feel unsafe. We discussed our bodies early warning signs that tell us that we feel unsafe. We explored safe and unsafe secrets and knowing who your trusted adults are at school that can help when you feel unsafe.
We have also spoken to the children about how adults who work at school have to keep you safe and if you speak to them about a problem, they will take you seriously and follow up with action.
It is so important that parents also have these conversations with their children about child safety and what they can do if they feel unsafe to help themselves or who can help them.
Here are some of our lucky PBL raffle winners from last week who have been seen following expected behaviours at school. Congratulations to these students and keep up the amazing work!
Action for Happiness calendar: Self-care September
What is self-care?
Self-care is the practice of engaging in activities that promote and maintain your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It is important because it helps you manage stress, reduce the risk of illness, prevent burnout, and improve your overall quality of life. By regularly tending to your own needs, you can be more resilient, energized, and better equipped to care for others.
It is so easy for us all to get caught up in the business of life and forget to practice self-care. It is important that we as adults model self-care for our children so they see the importance of looking after our mental and physical health. Why not try some of these ideas together as a family over the school holidays?
