Art Restoration

Restoring “The Nativity” by Br Amedy Molloy

Do you love all things Art? Are you considering a career in the Arts but unsure about the available pathways? One fascinating area is art restoration and conservation—the science and skill behind bringing artworks back to life while protecting them for future generations.

We are excited to share that professional art conservator, Cash Brown, is currently restoring one of the College’s treasured artworks, The Nativity (1960), an oil on board by Br Amedy (Edmund) Molloy, who served as Headmaster of St John’s College from 1958–1969.

Cash is a highly experienced conservator who specialises in the treatment and care of paintings and painted objects, as well as preventive conservation for museums and collections. Before earning her Master of Cultural Materials Conservation at the University of Melbourne in 2014, she worked in the Museum and Gallery sector for over 14 years in roles including preparator, curator, program manager, and practising artist.

On Tuesday, 7 October, Cash will be visiting the College to speak with students and staff during lunchtime in the CLC. At this session, she will:

  • Share her career journey and insights into the world of conservation.
  • Return the restored The Nativity to the College.
  • Explain the restoration process and the importance of caring for cultural artworks.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the hidden world of art conservation and to see how one of our own College treasures has been carefully preserved.

All students and staff are warmly invited to attend. Don’t miss this chance to hear the story of The Nativity’s journey and to see how the College is ensuring that our art collection continues to inspire generations to come.
