From the Principal's Desk

Week 9

We are on the count down to a lovely Spring break.

Tonight we are holding our NEON Disco from 5:30pm-6:30pm.  Don’t forget parents, we are also holding an information session for parents regarding helping our children read through vocabulary at the same time.

UNE Leaders Day

Last Friday our Year 6 students attended a UNE Leaders day.  Our students had a great day learning about what UNE has to offer.

Check- In Completed

Well done to our students in years 4 and 6 who have completed their Check-In assessments for 2025.  All students completed a reading and a numeracy test and year 6 students also completed a writing assessment.

These assessments provide instant feedback and help our school support the identification of students’ performance in literacy and numeracy and help inform next steps in teaching and learning across cohorts and individuals.

Interest Group Day

Next term on Wednesday 29 November, we will be holding an interest group day, allowing students to tap into areas of interest for their learning.  The day will be broken into sessions of approximately one hour.  This is an approach our school will embrace further in 2026, identifying opportunities for students to access High Potential and Gifted Education opportunities.

We are inviting parents, carers and community members who have an activity they would like to offer for K-2, 3-6 or K-6 to contact the school via phone or email over the coming weeks with any activity ideas.  Volunteers must have a working with Children check.

                         You Can Do It!

The YCDI! (You Can Do It!) Catastrophe Scale is used to help students and individuals, particularly children, put their problems into perspective and reduce overreactions to negative events. By rating a problem's severity on the scale, individuals can lower their emotional intensity, think more rationally, and build greater emotional regulation and resilience. The scale encourages students to distinguish between minor inconveniences and truly serious problems, thereby preventing them from blowing things out of proportion.  We use this scale in our classes and playground K-6.

PAX Word of the fortnight - TRANQUIL

Tranquil means calm, peaceful, and quiet, like a still, quiet lake or a cozy, peaceful room where you can relax without any loud noises or disturbances. It's the feeling you get when you are very relaxed and not upset or worried at all.

We have times at school when we can feel tranquil and places which are tranquil in our class and playground. We are also learning about different strategies to remain calm in challenging situations and become more tranquil.

Have a fabulous week!
