Stage 3 Canberra Excursion 2025

🌟 Stage 3 Canberra Excursion 2025 🌟
From Sunday 14th – Thursday 18th September 2025, our Stage 3 students travelled to Canberra for an unforgettable excursion filled with learning, adventure, and plenty of fun.
Day 1 – Sunday 14th September
Excitement was in the air as we departed Guyra bright and early at 5:30am aboard Edwards Coaches. After a long day of travel, we arrived safely at Discovery Park Canberra in the late afternoon. Following dinner, students settled into their accommodation and enjoyed a relaxed evening of games and a movie night to kick off the week ahead.
Day 2 – Monday 15th September
Our first full day began with a visit to the Australian War Memorial, where students—dressed in full school winter uniform—showed great respect while learning about the sacrifices made by Australian service men and women. From there, we explored the National Gallery of Australia, discovering famous artworks and engaging with Australia’s rich cultural history.
After lunch and some time to recharge, the highlight for many was Questacon, where science came alive through interactive exhibits and hands-on learning. In the evening, we stepped back in time with a fascinating visit to the National Dinosaur Museum, before heading back to accommodation for a good night’s rest.
Day 3 – Tuesday 16th September
Day three started bright and early with a tour of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), where students were inspired by elite training facilities and stories of sporting achievement. Next, we visited the Royal Australian Mint, where students discovered how Australia’s coins are designed and made.
The afternoon was packed with adventure as we explored the National Zoo and Aquarium, followed by a stop at the National Arboretum for afternoon tea and a play at the Pod Playground. Students also took part in a Around Australia Tour at the Australian National Botanic Gardens, learning about biodiversity and ecosystems in a hands-on way. The day ended with plenty of laughter and energy burned at Flip Out Majura, a trampoline park that was a definite hit with all!
Day 4 – Wednesday 17th September
The focus of Wednesday was civics and government. We began at the National Electoral Education Centre, where students participated in a mock election to learn how Australia’s voting system works. A walking tour of the Old Parliament House Gardens followed, before we made our way to Parliament House. Dressed once again in winter uniform, students were captivated by a live screening and tour of Australia’s centre of democracy.
After lunch, we ended the afternoon at Cockington Green, where the miniature villages and gardens sparked plenty of wonder and imagination. The day concluded with dinner back at our accommodation and some well-earned rest.
Day 5 – Thursday 18th September
On Thursday morning we departed Canberra at 5:00am to begin the journey home. Along the way, we enjoyed meal breaks and a chance to reflect on the many highlights of the trip. We arrived back at SMOTA Guyra around 4:00pm, tired but full of wonderful memories.
🎒 A Huge Thank You 🎒
We extend our gratitude to the staff who organised and supervised the excursion, ensuring our students had a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience. Thank you also to our parents and carers for your support in making this opportunity possible. Most importantly, we are proud of our Stage 3 students, who represented our school with respect, curiosity, and enthusiasm throughout the entire trip. This excursion provided not only valuable learning experiences but also memories that will last a lifetime.
