What's happening in the Performing Arts room?
In Prep we are continuing to learn about rhythm and beat. Last week we practiced keeping a steady beat through clapping, counting and patting. We also have been practicing our singing with a fan favourite - Wash your face with Orange Juice by Peter Coombe. This week we have been focusing on listening to music, and sharing what we notice about the tempo, dynamics and qualities, as well as how the music makes us feel.
In Grade One and Two we have continued our singing unit, and it is a joy to watch the passion with which they sing. This week we have completed an analysis of a song, listening to 'Holding Out for a Hero' and identify the tempo, dynamics, qualities, how the music makes us feel, whether or not we like the song and also creating a small piece of artwork inspired by the song.
The Grade Threes, Fours, Fives and Sixes finally got to perform their Body Percussion routines and all students are congratulated for the effort they put into these. We have now moved onto our unit on Music Theory, starting with the different note and rest names and lengths. This is preparing us for Term 4, when we will begin playing instruments.
Each week, four students from across the school are acknowledged as our Performers of the Week, celebrating their talent and effort in their lessons.
