Principal's Report

NAPLAN update

NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all Australian students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9, designed to measure their essential literacy and numeracy skills against national standards. These online tests assess reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy, providing schools and governments with data to monitor student progress, identify areas for improvement, and inform educational programs. ACARA designs the tests and they are administered in March each year.

NAPLAN assessments are a snapshot in time of a student. It is only one measurement and is one piece of the puzzle to assist in understanding student's growth which is vital to remember when looking at the overall achievements and areas for growth for all individual students. NAPLAN results are however useful for individual schools, school networks, states and nationally for educators to consider trends in results/growth and areas for improvement.

Here are a few LPS results. Overall our students performed extremely well with high percentages of students in the strong and exceeding proficiency levels.

Year 3 reading - 77% strong/exceeding (State result 69%), Year 5 reading 82% strong/exceeding (State result 74%)

Year 3 numeracy - 69% strong/exceeding (State result 66%), Year 5 numeracy 88% strong/exceeding (State result 69%)

Reading and numeracy have been focus areas for our annual implementation plan so we are really happy with how we are tracking with our teaching and learning particularly in these areas
