Victorian Principal's Association (VPA Conference)
Last week Ben and I attended the 2025 Victorian Principal’s Association Conference. The theme of the conference was Elevation: Shaping Futures and had a strong focus on building capable staff and leadership teams to then in turn build quality teaching practice that helps every student achieve their potential. Principals listened to a variety of speakers who explored how to perform under pressure and rise to the occasion, intergenerational perspectives on the workforce and building relationships across the generational divide, developing a culture of excellence when learning, teaching and leading, and avoiding distractions to manage risk and develop a clear and cohesive plan for improvement.
Throughout each of the sessions, the underlying message of building trust, showing empathy and making teaching and learning meaningful were a constant. The reality is that there is never a neat solution that meets every single person’s needs in a school environment, but if we are all willing to roll up our sleeves and do the hard work, the results will come. This starts with the principal and flows through to every staff member, student and parent as we work together to help each child thrive. Through identifying and understanding what we need to refine in order to improve, excellence becomes a dynamic process that is embedded within the school. To paraphrase Lee Crockett, the 3 main breakthroughs are identifying:
Intentional leadership
- Restores focus, reclaims time, creates space for culture to grow
Empowered teaching
- Ignites classrooms, renews purpose, builds culture where excellence is pursued together
Inspired learning
- Sparks curiosity, fuels ownership, creates culture where students thrive as agents of their own growth
Our key take-away from the Conference was that Camelot Rise Primary School is well on its way to achieving these aims, but as we often say, meeting every learner’s point of need is an ongoing challenge that we are constantly working towards.
Taking the Leap to Secondary School - Year 6 students
Transitioning to secondary school is a significant event for students (and their families). It's a time of immense change in their physical, social and emotional wellbeing. On top of this comes the demand of adjusting to a secondary school environment including higher academic and organisation needs. This workshop is aimed at providing students with knowledge, tools and strategies to assist them in experiencing a smooth and successful transition. Students will be provided with many tips on how to cope with the move to secondary school so they can start preparing now and decrease any stress/ anxiety they may be feeling. The workshop will be facilitated by Amanda Lecuade from Organising Students. https://organisingstudents.com.au/
Staffing News

Parent Contributions 2026
By the end of November, we will inform the school community of the Parent Payments for 2026. The Department of Education has asked schools to itemise the payments. The cost for Parent Payments is discussed and approved at our Finance and School Council meetings prior to being announced to the school community.
Are you leaving CRPS in 2026?
We ask that you let us know if you are moving or have enrolled in another school in 2026. We require this information as soon as possible to establish grade structures for the start of the new school year. If your child is currently in Grades Foundation – 5, and will not be at Camelot Rise in 2026, please notify the school office in writing / email as soon as possible.
