The Final Week of Term 3...
Guardian Childcare & Education Camberwell Visit
We were delighted to welcome 26 kinder students and their teachers to St Roch's on Wednesday 10 September. This visit was to support the GC & EC's Transition to Primary School program and allowed our Year 6 leaders to speak to the younger students about what they can look forward to next year when they commence school. After a tour of our beautiful school the kinder students enjoyed a Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) session in the Hall led by our Year 6 students. Miss Allen and the Year 6 students were incredibly welcoming and attentive to the needs of the younger students, making them feel safe in a 'big' school.
Year 3/4 Learning Expo
Our Year 3 and Year 4 students showcased the learning from their Geography unit of study with an Open Classroom on Wednesday 17 September. The students researched a chosen state of Australia and then presented this to students from Prep to Year 6. It was a wonderful celebration of all they had learned. Their research and presentation skills were outstanding as was their ability to share their knowledge of each State of Australia.
AFLW Visit
We were excited to have three AFL Women's players from Melbourne visit us on Tuesday 16 September. Our students were complimented on the incredible respect they showed as they listened so attentively to the players sharing their journey into AFL Football.
Term 3 Chess Club Champions
We are thrilled to announce the St Roch’s Chess Club Champions for Term 3. These students received their trophies and badges at the end of last term on Thursday 18 September and we are very proud of their achievements. They have been attending weekly chess club sessions with Sam, our coach, throughout the term to build their skills. Each week students played a friendly game of chess with a partner and points were collected. Students receive bonus points for showing respect, responsibility and resilience at Chess Club.
We would like to congratulate Hannah Setiawan who received first place and has been awarded the best and fairest trophy. Congratulations Henry.
Congratulations to Wally Bristow who has been awarded the silver Grasshopper Badge for second place.
And congratulations to Rowan Grace who has been awarded the Bronze grasshopper Badge for third place.
We would like to thank all of our students who have participated in Chess Club over the past three terms. Chess Club will be back next year. We look forward to more sessions with Chess for Schools in 2026.
Malvern Emergency Food Program - Minni Vinnies
On Thursday 18 September we were very proud to donate 509 non perishable food items to the Malvern Emergency Food Program. Thank you to our incredibly generous families who supported our Year 5 & 6 Mini Vinnies Program. Trish and Dale from the Malvern Emergency Food Program were extremely grateful and look forward to sharing these goods with families in need in our community. Thanks to Mrs Louise Bolton for initiating this opportunity.
Here is their letter of thanks!
MALVERN EMERGENGY FOOD PROGRAM INC. (MEFP)
Thank you to St Roch’s Primary School from the Malvern Emergency Food Program 2025. We wish to thank St Roch’s for the recent generous donation of food items to MEFP. Our appreciation is extended to the whole school community with special mention to the Mini Vinnies and the teachers who did the groundwork, and to our liaisons, Deputy Principal Nadine Bolton and REL Louise Bolton.
When we visited St Roch’s to pick up the donation we were most impressed by the enthusiasm and efficiency with which the Mini Vinnies helped us move the food from the hall to our car boots.
MEFP packs supermarket sized bags of the food items for the Malvern Police station where they can be accessed by anyone in need or can be used by the police in situations they identify. Sincere thanks to St Roch’s Primary School for your ongoing support.
Regards, Trish Woodman, MEFP Schools Coordinator
