Players Match Report

The Girls Senior Cricket Team played in the Victorian State Finals on Tuesday 14th October in Northcote. We played SEDA in the semi final, and bowled first, their opening batters were extremely strong scoring 70 in the first 5 overs, however, we managed to keep them to 145 by the 20th over thanks to some quick wickets. Sarah took the best wicket all year with an incredible caught and bowled to one of SEDA's best batters (whom we later found out plays for Vic Metro). Annabel had a great day with the ball, boasting figures of 3/18 from 4 overs.  Our batting in the second innings did not go the way we hoped, unfortunately getting bowled out for 55 after 14 overs. However, Grace followed up her great bowling during the first innings with our highest run score of 14. Sadly, we lost quite a few wickets early and didn't utilise many run opportunities, but we all still had a great day out, making the most of the day with our Year 12s fielding in 80s headbands for their decades dress up day, and kicking the footy on the oval after getting out. While we may not have walked away with the win, our efforts were recognised by the umpires and School Sport Victoria with the school Spirit of Sport award which we were extremely grateful to receive.

Senior Girls Cricket

The team waited patiently for several months to compete in the State Semi Final. While their extraordinary effort did not get them through to the Grand Final, they certainly did their coach and college proud. Out of the four competing teams, our Chelt.Sec girls were awarded the Spirit of Sport Award. The sports convenor, who delivered the green flag, was gushing with enthusiasm for our team and very impressed with their effort, sportsmanship and skill, against the sporting college's that were in the competition. It's important to recognise that while this is our Senior Girls Cricket Team, there are three Year 12s, five Year 11s and four Year 9 students. We can't wait to see what they get up to next term. Thank you to team assistants Archie D., Ewan F. and Ethan B., your support was a great help to Ms. Beames. Thank you Ms. Beames for being the ever supportive coach, team leader and bus driver.

Chelt Flyers

Some outstanding efforts at the Brighton Beach Marathon on Sunday 31st August, when two Chelt Flyers took part in the Runner's World Half Marathon. The 21.1 kilometre course, from Brighton Beach to Beaumaris and return, was completed by Year 12 student Jack S. in 1 hour and 37 minute. A super impressive achievement Jack!

Mrs Crilley also took on the challenge to train and compete for the event as a hobby and exercise program. Mrs Crilley was happy to finish the race in her personal best time, but more importantly showed her wonderful cheer squad that anything is possible.

In school activities, Tilly L. has shown exemplary leadership skills this year. As the captain of the Senior Girls Cricket team, who went all the way to the State Finals, and voted by her peers as Squad Captain of the 58th Exchange, we are extremely proud of Tilly's effort. This effort and reward now extends to her local community, where Tilly has been appointed Captain of the Le Page Park Senior Women's Eleven. Go Panthers!
