Foundation Unit

This week in Reading, students have been exploring procedural text and sequencing the text correctly. They have identified that procedural texts start with a title followed by materials and steps.

In Writing, the Foundation students have been creating their own procedural texts. They have created a procedural text to share with the Kindergarten students who will be attending Woodend Primary School next year. The piece was about our morning routine and how we prepare for the school day once we arrive.

In Maths, the students have been exploring the concept of collecting data. Students have been asking the class a yes or no question and recording the answers they receive in the form of tally marks. The Foundation students have impressed us with how quickly they have picked up on this concept!

We have a new topic of Inquiry this term. We will be exploring why certain structures are made from different materials. Students will be exploring the school environment and discussing why we use materials like brick, wood or metal to make buildings sturdy, or why we have tan bark below the playgrounds instead of concrete.
