Specialists Wonga Weekly
Week 7, Term 1
Due to the public holiday, NAPLAN and the 5/6 sport gala day there will be a modified Performing Arts timetable this week. This means that not all classes will have Performing Arts.
Prep
Students are applying their learning from the term so far to respond to stories using their own compositions. They will use body percussion and instruments to play in a way that corresponds to the actions in a story. Students will show their understanding of fast and slow, loud and soft, and high and low.
Grade 1 and 2
Students in Grade 1 will continue to practise rhythms using taa (crotchet) and ti-ti (quavers). They will also be introduced to the concept of a rest (using zaa). Students will also begin to explore their rhythm patterns with pitch.
Students in Grade 2 will practise matching their rhythms on what they hear and the correct written notation. They will also be using their rhythm patterns as ostinato to help them make their own arrangements with percussion instruments.
Grade 3 and 4
Students are continuing to learn about the ukulele. They will continue to practise C, Am and F Chords. Students will spend time practising moving between these chords, and play along to music with what they know. They will also be introduced to another chord in G7, which will require them to use 3 fingers on the fret board. Students will continue to develop a variety of strumming patterns (up/down).
Grade 5 and 6
Students will have the opportunity to practise for their audition for Matilda Jr. (a reminder that audition sign ups are required by Thursday 13th March via this link). They will also begin or continue to work on a short composition for a glockenspiel, xylophone or keyboard using the treble clef, which will bring together their learning from the previous weeks.
*Artwork created in Terms 1, 2 and 3 by all year levels, will be collected and stored at school until our artshow later in the year (excluding a gift from each child for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day).
Prep
Students will look at the Indigenous artist Deanne Gilson and her artwork of the bogong moth. Students will recreate the moth using paper bark and craft paper, and attempt to use symmetry in their patterns on the wings.
Grade 1
Students will continue to look at the Australian artist Anna Blatman. They will finish painting the background for their ‘Country House’ painting focussing thick and neat painting techniques.
Grade 2
Students will continue their artwork inspired by Australian artist Ken Done. They will add schools of fish using various colours and shapes.
Grade 3 and 4
Students will finish sculpting their person out of plasticine to lay on their beach towel from last week. They will also add a liquid latex to their terracotta vase ready for dipping into glaze next week as a resist experiment.
Grade 5
Students will continue their textiles unit around Australian artist Pete Cromer’s bird art. This week they will finish the blanket stitching and begin to stuff their bird and sew it together.
Grade 6
Students will be starting a unit on ‘tone’ and will create light and dark tones with two different grey leads when shading, cross hatching and stipple (dots) marking.
