DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA
Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
🌱 NAPLAN
NAPLAN kicks off this week, the Grade 5 students have been working hard preparing themselves for these assessments and will be looking to put their best foot forward during the week.
To support your child during this time, please send them to school with their iPad fully charged and ensure their iPads have the following:
We have now completed an online NAPLAN practice using the NAPLAN app and platform. There are still a few iPads from home that have not been set up properly, so could we please ask you to check the following:
- your child's iPad is 8th generation
- you have installed the latest update (IOS: 18.3.1)
- you have installed the NAP 2025 app
- you have updated the NAP 2025 app (if needed)
- you are connected to the school internet
They need to bring the following to school:
- their headphones (if they have a wireless connection)
- their iPads fully charged
🌱 LITERACY
This week, we are continuing our mentor texts, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo (Grade 5) and The Silver Donkey by Sonya Hartnett (Grade 6).
What you can do at home
Ask your child to share what they have read about in the mentor texts during week. Enable them to read texts of their interests on a daily basis and talk to them about what they’re reading and why.
Once the Grade 5s finish NAPLAN, they’ll dive into writing for fun! They'll explore a variety of genres, from exciting adventures to silly stories, all while enjoying the freedom to be creative and express themselves.
The Grade 6s are focusing on figurative language, writing fables, and responding to the class text Silver Donkey in their writing. They'll be exploring creative ways to use language and deepen their understanding of storytelling.
In Spelling, students in Grade 5 will continue to work on their independent word lists, based on their results on the SWST. This will continue each week, with new words and a variety of activities to choose from.
Grade 6 students are focusing on understanding the meanings of various suffixes. They’ll explore how the suffix ‘ad’ and ‘ac’ indicate “toward,” as in words like adjust and accumulate. They’ll also look at how these suffixes change the meaning of base words.
🌱 NUMERACY
Grade 6 students will be working on place value, focusing on representing, ordering, and comparing numbers with decimals. They’ll also practice rounding, along with adding and subtracting, to build a solid foundation and boost their confidence with these operations.
Grade 5 students will engage in a variety of fun and interactive Maths games, number talks, and activities designed to strengthen their problem-solving skills. These activities will help them gain confidence in tackling questions similar to those found in NAPLAN, while building their understanding of key maths concepts.
What you can do at home
Discuss and work on decimal problems while you are grocery shopping or purchasing goods. You may want to discuss how much change is given when paying with cash. You may also discuss decimals when cooking at home, when weighing and measuring ingredients.
🌱 CBL
Students will begin to work in groups to propose a new law for the Year 5/6 community. They will develop their law, present their idea to their classroom teacher for consideration, and then debate it in a mock parliament before a final decision is made in the coming weeks.
Essential Question:
How and why do people connect to achieve laws in society?
Guiding Questions:
- What does it mean to be a citizen?
- What is democracy in Australia and why is voting in a democracy important?
- What are the roles and responsibilities of the different levels of government and how do they connect?
- How are laws developed and enforced?
🌱 WELLBEING
This week, we are engaging in lessons from the Cyber Safety Project, focusing on identifying online scams and threats to help students stay safe in the digital world.
🌿 REMINDERS
🌱 Please assist your child in ensuring that their iPad comes to school every day, fully charged.
🌱 Please refer to the email communication (12/2/25) in regards to giving permission for allowing connection for your child's iPad to Moysle. This permission must be given before your child can bring their iPad into class.
