Principal Message

Friday  21st March

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Mitcham Primary School Community,

I would like to take a moment to thank the parents who attended our Open School Council Meeting on Tuesday, 18th March. Your participation in these meetings is invaluable, and we are grateful for your ongoing support. During this meeting, we shared our 2024 Annual Report to the School Community. I am pleased to inform you that the report has now been endorsed by our School Council and is in the process of being reviewed by the Department of Education. Once we receive the reviewed report, we will make it available on our School Website for you to access.

We also spent time discussing our 2025 Annual Implementation Plan, which outlines our goals for the coming year. This important document is now available for review on our School Website, and I encourage you to take a look to stay informed about our vision and objectives for 2025.

Following the council meeting, we moved into a session of our 2025 School Council. It was a pleasure to welcome new members to our team—Laura Wood, a new parent member, and Laura Ellis, a new staff member. We also elected our office bearers for the year, and I am thrilled to announce that Kylie Walsch will continue as School Council President, Lisa Rhind as School Council Treasurer, and Shanaz Davakhah as School Council Vice President. We are excited to work with these dedicated individuals as we continue to work together to shape the future of Mitcham Primary School.

On Wednesday, we celebrated Harmony Day in what was truly a special and vibrant day at the school. Harmony Day is an important occasion where we celebrate the cultural diversity that makes Australia and especially our school such a rich and unique nation. The day is a reminder of the values of inclusiveness, respect, and belonging. This year, we decided to mix things up a bit and have the students perform cultural-themed dances instead of songs. I must give a special thanks to Shanaz Davakhah for suggesting this idea last year—it was a fantastic change and the students had an absolute blast learning the dances. It was such a joy to see their enthusiasm and energy on display, and I’m sure it’s an experience they will remember fondly. Special thanks to Miss K for her organisation of an amazing evening!

Thank you once again to everyone who contributed to making both our School Council meeting and Harmony Day such successes. We are so lucky to have such an engaged and enthusiastic community.

Please remember Monday is a pupil free day, staff will be enjoying professional development in Mathematics.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Erin
