Principal's Message

A Busy and Exciting Term Ahead

As we progress through Term 1, our school community continues to thrive with meaningful learning experiences, special events, and important milestones for our students and families.

NAPLAN Assessments – Supporting Our Students

Our Year 3, 5, 7, and 9 students are undertaking NAPLAN assessments this fortnight. These assessments provide valuable insights into student progress in literacy and numeracy, helping to inform teaching and learning at St Philomena’s. We encourage students to confidently approach these assessments, knowing they are an opportunity to showcase their growth and learning. Parents and caregivers can support their children by ensuring they get plenty of rest, maintain a positive mindset, and remember that NAPLAN is just one part of their educational journey.

The Season of Lent – A Time for Reflection

This week, we entered the holy season of Lent, a time of reflection, prayer, and preparation leading up to Easter. As a school, we will engage in Lenten activities that encourage students to think about demonstrating kindness, generosity, and compassion in their daily lives. Through prayer and good works, we aim to deepen our faith and commitment to living out the Gospel values.

Kindergarten and Year 7 Information Evening – A Great Success

On Thursday evening, we hosted our Kindergarten and Year 7 Information Evening, welcoming new families to our school to learn more about St. Philomena’s. Seeing so many engaged parents and students eager to join our school community was wonderful. The evening provided valuable insights into our curriculum, support structures, and the nurturing environment we offer. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to making the event informative and welcoming.

A Wonderful Start to the Year – Community BBQ Success

Last night, we had the pleasure of welcoming over 200 guests to our Beginning of the School Year BBQ. It was heartwarming to see families, students, and staff come together to celebrate the start of 2025 in such a positive and joyful way. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, delicious food, and a true sense of community. Events like these strengthen our school spirit and remind us of the importance of connection and belonging. Thank you to everyone who attended and to those who helped make the evening such a great success!

St Patrick’s Day Celebrations

This Monday, we will celebrate St Patrick’s Day, honouring the patron saint of Ireland and recognising his influence on our faith and heritage. K-10 students are encouraged to add a touch of green to their uniforms, such as green socks or ribbons, to show their spirit. Additionally, we invite all students to bring in coins for our annual St Patrick’s Day coin trail—let’s see which house can create the longest trail! This fun activity will serve as a fundraiser for CARITAS and their Lenten Appeal, helping those in need during this important season of giving. This is a fun and meaningful way to celebrate while supporting a worthy cause. We look forward to a fantastic day of community, faith, and school spirit.

As we continue this term, let us embrace all the opportunities for learning, growth, and faith that lie ahead.
