Stage 2 News!

Stage 2 is off to a fantastic start this year! We would like to take a moment to share just some of the exciting things we did in Term 1, including some exciting work in English, science, history, rrt and of course Harmony Day and the Fancy Hat Parade.

As we move into Term 2, we are thrilled to share our exciting line up of events! Last week, our students had the opportunity to spark their curiosity and creativity through hands-on maths activities at the Inquisitive Minds Incursion.

Although the schedule for the cross country event changed unexpectedly last Friday, it didn't dampen the spirits of our students. It was wonderful to witness so many smiles and a students displaying team spirit throughout the day!

Looking ahead, we have another big sporting event on the horizon: our Athletics Carnival in Week 5. This event promises to be an exciting celebration of athletic talent, where every student can shine and compete in a variety of events. We are planning an adventurous excursion to Botany Bay, which will allow students to explore nature while making connections to their learning in history. Keep an eye on Sentral for payment and permission details.

Overall, it’s shaping up to be a term filled with fun, learning, and memorable experiences for our students! Thank you for your continued support.

A Sneak Peek at Our Learning Journey

Year 3 English - Fantastic Mr. Fox

Year 3 kicked off the year with the exciting tales of 'Fantastic Mr Fox' by Roald Dahl! This story has sparked our students' imaginations and provided a great opportunity for learning.

We focused on how the characters' attempts and failures drive the stories plot forward. Students explored how Mr. Fox and his friends face challenges and setbacks, teaching them about perseverance and creativity. They were inspired to create their own stories, using their characters’ struggles and successes to make our stories more engaging.

It was also fantastic to link our book to some fun art activities! Students applied techniques learnt in art, such as watercolours and oil pastels, to create their own versions of Mr. Fox. Check out some of our artworks!

Year 4 English - The Thing About Oliver

In the Year 4 English unit 'The Thing About Oliver,' students dove into the story of a young boy named Oliver, exploring important themes like friendship, being unique, and overcoming challenges. The unit helped children understand Oliver's experiences with his family and friends while developing their reading and writing skills. Through fun activities such as reading together, creative writing, and group discussions, students not only improved their literacy but also learned valuable lessons about the world around them.

The story is told through the eyes of Oliver's sister, Tilly. Tilly dreamt of being a marine biologist when she was older. This was a great opportunity for students to learn a bit more about underwater adventures such as snorkelling. Students completed a snorkelling portrait where they were encouraged to add their own flair.

Science - The Journey of Food

At the end of Term 1, Stage 2 explored how technology has changed farming in Australia. Students looked at inventions that help farmers work more efficiently and boost production. They investigated the journeys of carrots, cheese, milk, and fibre, discovering how technology plays a key role in getting these products to our tables. It was a wonderful learning experience that connected our students with Australia’s agricultural heritage. Check out some of our work below!

History - Captain Cook

Students engaged in a research task on the world's great explorers, with a focus on Captain Cook. They learned to navigate online resources and answered questions on their research sheets, which they then used to create informative posters. We’re excited to showcase some of their amazing work—check out our posters!

Whole School Events

Harmony Day

This year's Harmony Day was a wonderful celebration of diversity and community, where the whole school community came together to share delicious dishes from their cultures. From heart-warming savoury meals to delightful desserts, the food not only filled our stomachs but also filled our hearts with joy and connection. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this event a fun and memorable experience — one scrumptious bite at a time!

Fancy Hat Parade

We finished off the term with a delightful Fancy Hat Parade that brought joy and creativity to our school community. Students proudly showcased their unique and imaginative hats, each one more creative than the last. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and excitement as everyone had the chance to shake hands with the Easter Bunny, who added a magical touch to the event. It was a wonderful celebration of creativity and community spirit!

Inquisitive Minds

Last Thursday, our students had the opportunity to participate in the Inquisitive Minds Workshop. They learned the art of breaking down complex maths questions into manageable parts. Working in pairs, they practised their skills, enhancing teamwork and critical thinking. The highlight of the workshop was a fun, fast-paced challenge that had everyone engaged and excited. It’s safe to say the kids had a blast—talk about a sum of fun! We can't wait to see how these skills will help them tackle future maths challenges!
