Gala Day - Season 1
We are thrilled to share that we kicked off Gala Days Season 1 with excitement over three action-packed days! This season featured a variety of sports, including mixed Newcombe ball, girls' and boys' soccer, girls' touch footy, and boys' softball. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to compete and work as a team, making the season memorable despite some weather challenges.
Although the first day was rained out, our students remained positive and looked forward to the following days. The second day brought beautiful weather, allowing everyone to fully enjoy the competitions and teamwork. Day 3 really did define the term 'four season in one day'. We were unsure whether we needed a jacket, poncho or a singlet as the sun played hide and seek with the stormy clouds. Despite the crazy weather, we successfully completed Day 3, showcasing the resilience and enthusiasm of our students. We can’t wait to find out if any of our teams were successful in their competitions and we thank you for your continued support!
As we look ahead, we are excited for the next season! A big good luck to all students who tried out for a team last Friday. We hope Season 2 brings plenty of sunshine and smiles!

Cross Country Carnival
We are excited to share that our Cross Country event, which faced two rescheduling challenges, was successfully held last Friday! Despite the unexpected changes due to the forecast of rain, our students embraced the surprise with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. It was a fantastic day filled with competition and school spirit.
We are incredibly proud of all our students who participated in the big run, earning valuable points for their respective houses: Beachley (blue), Freeman (red), Gilchrist (green), and Thorpe (yellow). A special congratulations goes out to the top four boys and top four girls in each age group, who will proudly represent our school at the zone competition next Wednesday, 21st May.
Thank you for your support, and let’s continue to cheer on our students as they showcase their talents!
Premier's Sporting Challenge
We are thrilled to announce that Green Valley Public School has once again registered to participate in the NSW Premier's Sporting Challenge! This initiative encourages students to engage in more sports and physical activities, promoting healthy and active lifestyles. With a focus on doing at least 60 minutes of activity each day, this challenge is not only fun but also vital for our students' wellbeing.
Kindy, Year 1 and Year 2
For our youngest students, the aim of the Premier’s Sporting Challenge is to encourage movement and activity every day! Your child's teacher will track how much they move, and at the end of the term, students who achieve the goal will receive a special Golden certificate.
We encourage children to be active during lunch and recess by walking, running, skipping, climbing, dancing, and playing sports. After school, we hope they continue to move by playing outside and staying active.
Starting next week, our Sporting Challenge ambassadors will introduce skipping ropes and other activities to make playtime even more engaging. Students in Kindy, Year 1 and Year 2 will take home a special magnet to remind them to be active more often, along with a poster for their classrooms!
Years 3-6: Track your activities
For students in Year 3-6, we will be monitoring physical activity levels during class time, recess, lunch, and sport lessons. Activities completed outside school hours will also contribute towards the Challenge award. Each student in this age group will receive their own logbook to record daily physical activity, which will be tracked online. Teachers and Sporting Challenge ambassadors are available to assist with this.
Students completing the Challenge will earn a personalised certificate (Diamond, Gold, Silver, or Bronze) signed by the Premier of New South Wales.
Engaging in physical activity not only improves health but also has social and emotional benefits. It helps students develop communication skills, confidence, and resilience. As we promote activity in the playground, our Sporting Challenge ambassadors will be on hand to support students and introduce fun activities. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please encourage your child to speak with one of the ambassadors.
Thank you for your support as we encourage our students to be active and healthy!
