Year 11 News

Tim Pitt & Emma Hopper,  Year 11 Coordinators

Every newsletter we will be giving some tips for parents to support your child as they navigate the VCE.

Making a study timetable

Have you ever asked your child what homework they have, only to be told “I don’t have any work!”? The VCE brings additional study requirements beyond the work completed in the classroom and set homework. It is likely that your child is being honest in that they have completed their homework, however may not be making the time to review the key concepts from class. Developing a regular study routine if the first step in supporting your child in maximising their success over the next two years.

Our tips

- Create a study timetable co-operatively. Utilise a template or create your own.

- Customise to suit your child’s lifestyle. Schedule non-negotiable events first (before adding in homework and study), such as sport, part time work, regular social activities such as friends, favourite TV show, gaming).

- Be prepared to be flexible and adapt if unexpected events occur during the week.

- Build in breaks to avoid burnout.

Reminders

A reminder that if your child is absent, we request that you contact the school either via SEQTA, email/DM your child’s form group teacher or bring a signed note to give to your form group teacher. At Horsham College there is an 80% attendance requirement for all VCE classes, except for approved absences. That is why it is extremely important to get any absences approved ASAP using the above methods. All absences must be parent or guardian approved. Additionally, if your child is absent for an assessment task, they are required to provide a medical certificate to explain the absence. Please contact the Year 11 team with any questions.
