School Reading Focus
Each fortnight our teachers engage in high quality professional learning to enhance their understanding and skills in strategically identified aspects of the curriculum. Our lens remains focused on explicit teaching through effective classroom practice and assessment, and we continue to implement Learning Intentions and Success Criteria supported through the 'Third Teacher' being the highly supportive classroom environment. As we move through Term 2 and 3, the staff are turning their attention to improving reading across the school linked with explicit teaching, through strengthening the K-2 Phonics Instruction and 3-6 Reading Comprehension skills.
Our K-2 teachers are engaging with an online learning platform to build their expertise in developing explicit teaching and learning lessons aligned to evidence based phonics instruction.
Our 3-6 teachers are engaging with the DoE Strategic Support Team to engage with research, develop understanding, implement strategies and reflect on the impact on student outcomes.
Parents and carers are encouraged to read to their child, have their child read to them or model positive reading habits regularly to build confidence and love of reading. The school provides Reading Eggs as an online source to supplement reading programs at school, and students are encouraged to engage with this software at home. Mr McLeod continues to build the collection of texts in our school library, and encourages student voice in the purchasing choices.
We look forward to sharing more of our journey as the year progresses.
