The Importance of Reading with your Child
We are extremely fortunate at SMC to have three excellent lending Libraries for our students to attend for Wide Reading classes, clubs and leisure reading.
Our aim is always to encourage our students to expand their reading experience, whether it be by selecting a book, magazine, trying a new genre, or listening to an audio book.
We do our best.
However, the greatest influence in a child’s life as a reader, is of course, the modelling set by their parents.
Finding time to read with your child, (toddler, tween or teen) can be challenging. Life is busy, things get in the way, extra-curricular activities and family commitments for example, but making time to read to or listen to your child read, can be one of the greatest gifts you can bestow upon them as they grow. A love of reading, and a readiness to read will help them academically, as it is the basis of every subject they will ever undertake in their school life and beyond!
So, parents, (and if you are fortunate enough to have grandparents in your family!) may we encourage you to set a wonderful foundation for your child’s education and please try and find some regular time to read with your child!
With thanks to Ms Hodgson, Mrs Andrews, Mr Jones, Mrs Elbarbar and Mrs Creed and their families for their beautiful photos.
