Fostering Respectful Communication and Stronger Partnerships
At St Monica’s College, we are committed to creating a supportive and respectful learning environment for all students, staff, and families. To ensure positive interactions and productive discussions, we kindly remind our community of the importance of being respectful when communicating with staff—both verbal and electronic.
Respectful Communication
Respectful communication is essential in maintaining a harmonious school environment and achieving the best outcomes for students. Whether communicating in person, via email, or through other digital platforms, we encourage all members of our school community to:
Use polite and professional language when speaking or writing to members of staff
Refrain from using aggressive, offensive, or inappropriate language
Express concerns in a constructive and solution-focused manner
Allow time for staff to respond to inquiries, keeping in mind their professional responsibilities and workload.
A challenge with verbal and electronic communication in particular, is that we can be tempted to compose emails in response to an event that is upsetting and evokes emotions and then send it to a staff member before ensuring the content and tone is respectful and appropriate.
Collaborating for Student Success
Our school values the strong partnership between parents, caregivers, and the College in supporting student success. We believe that working together can lead to improved academic outcomes, enhanced wellbeing, and a more enriching educational experience.
We encourage parents and guardians to:
Engage in open and respectful discussions with teachers and staff regarding student progress and wellbeing
Attend Parent Teacher Conferences, workshops, and College events
Support students by reinforcing school expectations and encouraging a positive attitude toward learning
Work collaboratively with staff to address concerns in a constructive and solution-oriented manner.
Building and Strengthening Our Partnership
A strong school-home partnership is vital to student achievement and wellbeing. We welcome open dialogue and encourage families to work alongside us in shaping a supportive educational experience for all students. If you have any concerns or suggestions, we encourage you to communicate with the appropriate staff so that we can address them together.
Healthy and strong relationships are built on a foundation of respectful interactions and communication. We understand that at times, we feel overwhelmed, worried or angry about our children. The method or tone of communication that can be delivered in these emotionally heightened conversations can be detrimental to achieving the desired outcome and maintaining healthy and positive relationships.
We appreciate the ongoing support of our families and look forward to continuing our collaboration for the benefit of all students. By fostering respect, open communication, and teamwork, we can ensure a positive and enriching learning environment for everyone.
