Vermont Secondary College
The end of term is fast approaching and Year 10 students have been busy with their assessments. Make sure all assessment tasks are completed because teachers have to complete school reports by the end of this week.
Year 10 are reminded that you do not have permission to leave the school if you have a free period due to TAFE or due to a teacher being absent from your year 11 AP class. If you do not have a class you are expected to do private study in the library or the senior study centre.
Students are reminded to have a lock on their locker.
The following information is taken from the VSC Personal Property Policy for your attention:
The Department of Education and Training (DET), and thus VSC also, does not have insurance for personal property for students. VSC does not take responsibility for items of personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged at school or during school activities.
VSC encourages students not to bring items of value to school. If such items must be brought to school, they should be stored securely.
Last issue we were excited to see that the Year 10 Psychology students had a great and worthwhile time at the Melbourne Zoo to explore animal behaviours using the scientific research method. Now was their time to complete their own inquires. There was free reign on what was focused on, but a commonality was that it involved some sort of behaviour or processing ability of the mind, and that there needed to be an experimental and control group.
As two of the three 10 Psychol classes take place on the same block, they were able to go between the classes and use each other as participants in the study. There was also a close analysis of whether the required ethical protocols had been followed or not.
Year 10 Student, Mia B
The year 10 psychology students were asked to create a scientific experiment to apply the knowledge gained during the previous subject. There were a variety of topics including: The affect sight had on the taste of skittles and how sound affected memory during a test. This assessment was fun as we were given the freedom to choose our own topic.
Thank you, Emma Bleazby, for leading this unit of work, your psychological knowledge is unparalleled!
