This Week At OOPS
International Women's Day
Last week our Year 2s thought about the women in their lives and the impact they have. The students shared something that they appreciate about a special woman in their lives.
The Grade 1s had the challenge of estimating and then counting how many unifix were in a tub. They decided that counting by 1s would take too long, so discussed potential ways to count the collection more efficiently. Both classes decided to make towers of 10, but eventually there were too many towers to keep track of! Students then had the idea of grouping 10 towers together to make 100, and then placing a magnetic hundred representation on top of the towers to keep track! In the end, 1JM had 687 unifix and 1KR had 1036 unifix!
Sports Academy
On Tuesday we were fortunate to have Kris McCarthy take our morning Sports Academy session. Kris represented Australia at Olympic and Commonwealth level as a middle distance runner, and he gave students some fantastic tips to improve their running skills .
