Mount Beauty Secondary College – School Council

School Council held its last meeting for the year on 19 February, 2025. 

A summary of discussion points are as follows:

 

Nominations for School Council

A call for Nominations for School Council are currently being sought (until 27/2). Being part of School Council is a great way to be involved and contribute to the school community. Bronwyn Gray will complete her most recent 2 year term after 4 years as President of School Council and has made a decision not to re-nominate for a further term. Everyone present acknowledged Bronwyn’s commitment and contributions to School Council over the past 6 years.

 

Annual Implementation Plan

School Council were provided with an update on the reported progress of the Annual Implementation Plan (AIP). An update on progress will be presented to the wider school community at the Annual General Meeting which will be scheduled later in the year.

 

Fortnightly Assemblies

The Council were advised that following feedback from student and teaching staff a decision was made to replace daily Home Group lessons with fortnightly year level assemblies. Assemblies have commenced for a number of year levels with the schedule for the remaining levels to be rolled out over the coming weeks.

 

Policies

School Council approved the following policies – Petty Cash, Purchasing Card, Cash Handling and the Electronic Funds policies.

 

Camps and Excursions

School Council approved the following School Camps and Excursions – Future Makers, Year 7 Camp, Year 11&12 VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies Excursion.

 

Grants/Projects Updates

School Council were updated on the status of large projects and grant applications this included:

· Toilet refurbishment – Dept. of Education is managing and coordinating this project for MBSC. At this time, tenders are being sought for an Architect for this project

· Accessibility Project – Dept. of Education is also managing and coordinating the improvement of accessibility at the school which will include installation of ramps, adjustments and renovation to doors and bathroom accessibility

· Emergency funding has been sourced to undertake required repairs to the TAFE Bathroom

· Successful grant application for installation of additional flag poles, which will enable the Australian National flag to be flow in addition to the Aboriginal National flag and the Torres Strait Islander flag.

· Over the December/January school holidays maintenance and refurbishment works were completed in the Library, VCE and Careers areas.
