Novel Study: 'War Horse'

The Grade 5/6 students have finished their novel, War Horse and made great progress with their paired reading sessions. In these sessions, they took turns reading aloud and set goals for each other to focus on, such as fluency, expression, or pacing. Through the novel, they have expanded their vocabulary, encountering words like fret and sombre, and have gained a deeper understanding of descriptive language, including powerful adjectives. Their discussions around the book have helped them build comprehension skills while engaging with the themes and emotions of the story.

Year 6 Icy Poles

The Year 6 icy pole sales on Wednesdays last term was a huge success, with students eagerly lining up each week to enjoy a refreshing treat. The fundraiser was incredibly popular, creating a buzz around the school as students looked forward to their mid-week icy pole break. Not only has it been a great way to cool down, but it has also helped raise valuable funds for the Year 6 Big Day Out. The enthusiasm and support from the school community made this initiative a fantastic highlight of the term!

Buddies

The Year 5/6 students have been having a fantastic time with their Prep buddies, which started with a special reading session in the library. The older students enjoyed sharing stories, helping their buddies develop a love for reading in a warm and supportive environment. Afterwards, the Year 6 students took the lead in setting up and running exciting sports rotations, while the Year 5 buddies guided their Preps through each activity. It was wonderful to see the teamwork, encouragement, and leadership on display, making it a fun and engaging experience for all!

Shrove Tuesday / Pancake Day

Pancake Day was a fantastic celebration, filled with delicious treats and meaningful learning! Mr. Brophy took on the role of head chef, flipping countless pancakes for students to enjoy, while Miss Perrin led engaging activities exploring the significance of Shrove Tuesday. Students completed interactive Blooket quizzes and Behind The News (BTN) comprehension tasks, deepening their understanding of the day’s traditions and meaning. It was a fun and enriching experience that brought the school community together in both learning and celebration! Thank you to those 5/6 parents who lent their cooktops for the day - it was most appreciated!

Run Club

Before school Run Club has been off to a fantastic start, with a great turnout from students in Grades 3 to 6. Each week, eager runners lace up their shoes and hit the track, showing determination and enthusiasm as they work on their fitness. It has been wonderful to see so many students getting involved, encouraging each other, and starting the day with energy and positivity. Please note, the day of Run Club has changed this term from a Wednesday to a Friday in line with our PE lessons, so that Mr Paoli can be in the classroom to teach as part of his per-service teaching placement.

Grand Prix

The Year 5/6 students had an exciting trip to the Grand Prix, where they had a day full of memorable experiences. They joined in the Welcome to Country ceremony, learning about the cultural significance of the land they were on and paying respect to the traditional custodians. Afterward, they had the chance to immerse themselves in a thrilling VR experience, where they got to pilot a helicopter. The students were excited as they virtually soared through the skies, navigating breathtaking views. It was a day full of learning, fun, and meaningful moments that left a lasting impression on everyone.

Thanks,

Chelsea Perrin and Tom Brophy 😁
