Term 1 2026

Banksia Group

In Term 1 the Banksia children settled into kinder routines with growing confidence and a strong sense of belonging.

Across the term, we have been focusing on kindness and respectful ways to use our bodies and voices, learning how to be safe, caring friends and how to include others in play.

The children have enjoyed making the most of our outdoor environment—climbing, digging, building obstacle courses and exploring the kinder yard. These experiences provide valuable “heavy work” that supports sensory regulation, focus and calm, while also building strength, coordination and persistence. Our natural world investigations have sparked lots of curiosity too, from noticing insects in the garden to creating bug habitats and observing the changes around us.

Inside, our learning spaces have been busy with rich play and creativity. Children have been collaborating in imaginative play (including vets, fairies, knights and “pretend kinder”),experimenting with potion making and water play, and designing and constructing with boxes, loose parts, magnetic blocks, marble runs and Lego. These experiences encourage problem solving, language development, planning and teamwork as children share ideas and negotiate roles. We have also been strengthening fine motor skills through threading, puzzles, playdough, drawing, painting and cutting, supporting children’s hand strength and control for everyday tasks and future writing. Through stories and group discussions, we shared the different celebrations and ceremonies in our families (including learning about Purim) and noticed the similarities that connect us—special foods, dressing up, coming together and meaningful traditions.

We also explored ways we can care for Country, sharing children’s ideas and drawings about looking after the land and our environment. Thank you for your ongoing support this term - we have loved getting to know each child and we’re looking forward to continuing our learning together in Term 2.
