Waratah Group

Term 1 2026

During Term 1, the Warratah children made a positive and confident start to kindergarten.

It has been wonderful to see children grow their independence, build friendships and settle into our routines as they explore the learning spaces and feel a strong sense of belonging within the group.

Across the term, we have spent time talking about who we can go to for support if we feel upset or need help, and practising ways to use our voice with confidence. Stories such asThe Bad Seed helped us reflect on feelings like frustration and anger, and on making kindchoices. Through group discussions, we also explored body autonomy and consent in age-appropriate ways—learning to notice our own “yes” and “no” and to respect the boundaries of others.

Our investigations have encouraged children to think deeply about the world around them. We explored sustainability through our worm farm and sorting experiences, discussing what belongs in recycling, compost and rubbish and why these choices matter. Children also experimented with solar fountains during water play, discovering that shadows can stop the fountain from working—an engaging hands-on way to explore cause and effect and learn about solar power.

Outdoor learning has been a highlight, with children enjoying obstacle courses, water play and building cubby houses with blocks. Nature discoveries (including finding a longhorn beetle in the garden) prompted careful observation, new vocabulary and thoughtfulquestions about habitats and what living things need to survive. Sensory experiences such as playdough, cloud sand and loose parts have supported creativity and regulation, while puzzles, construction materials, writing and drawing invitations have strengthened fine motor skills, persistence and early problem solving.

We have also shared learning that connects children to culture and community. Children enjoyed singing Inanay with clap sticks and exploring Aboriginal symbols and techniques as an art provocation. Group discussions about celebrations and events, including Chinese New Year and Ramadan, supported respect for diversity and gave children opportunities to share their own experiences and family traditions.

Thank you for your support throughout Term 1— we are proud of the progress the children have made and we look forward to more learning, play and discovery as Term 2 plays out.
