Celebrating Yr3 and Yr5 NAPLAN Results
This week we celebrated the latest NAPLAN results. There is lots to celebrate for individual students and the teaching and learning happening in classrooms across the school each day. It was great to see the significant focus on Reading over the last few years has seen 95% of students achieve medium and high relative growth from Yr3 to Yr5. Amazing!!
While digital copies of individual student reports will be available on Compass shortly, printed copies will be sent home to parents with students today.
Three Way Conferences
This is a reminder that the Three Way Conferences, scheduled for next Wednesday 22 July are open for booking, but close on Monday at 9am. This is a Curriculum Day when students are only required to attend for their Three Way Conference. TheirCare are running a program for families if required.
The Three Way Conferences include parents/carers, teacher and the student. This approach is used consistently throughout the whole school and provides a forum for teachers, students and parents to acknowledge student progress and achievement. The Three Way Conference allows for shared responsibility of student learning, assessment and reporting, while strengthening communication channels with parents about student’s learning and progress. It critically involves students in self-assessment and allows them to take responsibility for their own learning as they work toward and achieve curriculum outcomes.
Acknowledging that there were no written comments on the reports for semester one, at the start of the meeting, parents will be invited by the classroom teacher to nominate if they wanted time to discuss the written report towards the second half of the 15 minute conference. Please don't miss out on this important collaborative meeting.
Planned Industrial Action
Thursday 23 July
Parents may be aware that the Australian Education Union (AEU) has confirmed that members plan to take industrial action on Thursday 23 July.
As noted last term, the Victorian Government Schools Agreement (an industrial agreement that sets the pay, working conditions, and rules for staff working in Victorian government schools) is presently being negotiated between the government and staff of government schools.
I am informing parents and carers that a significant number of teachers and education support staff will be taking part and will not be present at school on this day. Last term, it resulted in notification that there were no students required at school on that day. This will result in significant disruption. The specific classes that will be affected have yet to be determined.
Staff participating in industrial action are required to inform the principal of their participation 48 hours before the intended industrial action. Once the impact on the school is determined, parents and families will be informed.

Explorer’s Space Takes Shape
Many have enjoyed watching our newest play space take shape. A yarning space, seating for sporting teams, renewed bubbler, a digging pit, construction teepees and stepping pathways leading up and down the embankment. There has been a significant amount of work over the holidays that has been enhanced by Wednesday’s day of planting by students and staff. We are hoping it will reach completion by the end of next week.
We are grateful for funding from the North East Link Community Fund that has contributed significantly towards the costs of the project along with all those who have shared their ideas, energy and organisation!
3/4 Learning Area and Admin Block Refreshed
Students and staff returned this week to the freshly painted walls and learning spaces. Over the holiday break, painters were busy painting in 1K and 1S as well as the corridor in the administration block. They continued through the 3/4 classrooms and Italian room and other spaces. We hope that parents enjoy these refreshed learning spaces when they visit for the Three Way Conferences.
New TheirCare Coordinator Appointed
This week we welcome Elle Dehghanfar as the new Rosanna Primary Coordinator of TheirCare. We look forward to getting to know her over the coming weeks. For many she will be a familiar face having worked with the TheirCare team at Rosanna Primary previously.
Swimming Starts For Students in Yrs1&2
Some slipped in, others fell in and some spent time considering their entry into the Ivanhoe Aquatic Centre pool today. This term students in Years 1 and 2 venture weekly to the swimming pool to enhance their water safety and swimming skills. This program is heavily subsidised by the Department of Education across Victoria. Thanks to our parent volunteers who enable it all to happen. Students in Prep will enjoy the experience in the final term of the year.
ICAS Assessments Reminder
There are just two weeks left for parents to register students for ICAS. It's a great opportunity for students to take on a meaningful academic challenge and earn recognition for their effort. If your child would like to share in this English, Writing or Mathematics challenges then make sure that you read about how to register on Compass. Registration and payments need to happen before entries close on Monday 27 July at 11:59pm.
Preps Hit the Oval
This week, Prep students have taken time to learn the processes and practices of crossing Bellevue Ave as they head to the oval. They have achieved their ‘oval license’ and will be invited to play at recess and lunch on the oval under the supervision of staff.
End of the Day Reminders
A reminder to parents and students that students who wish to ‘kick the footy’ at 3:30pm are encouraged to do so on the oval with their parent/carer. The time directly after dismissal is set aside for basketball on the basketball court until 3:45pm when the eager footballers are encouraged to have their turn. A reminder that Tuesdays see Sporty Stars use this space.
I encourage parents to remind students to dismount their bikes/scooters while on the site. This will minimise risks to collisions or accidents and ensure a positive end to the day.
Celebrating Student Voice in our Community
Students in the 4/5/6 Learning Area have focussed on building their persuasive writing skills over term two. So, it shouldn’t have been surprising to receive a call this week with news that the Legislative Council member for the North-Eastern Metropolitan Region, Mr Richard Welch, had received a letter from Phoebe, one of our Year 6 students. Equipped with her passionate concern for nature and the persuasive skills gained in class, Phoebe had written to the Legislative Council member and expressed her concern over the planned removal of trees along Ellesmere Parade. We look forward to hearing Phoebe’s letter read in Parliament in the weeks to come! Student Voice in action!
AusAlert Reminder

I have noted on the Compass Newsfeed information received about the national test of AusAlert which will happen across Australia on Monday 27 July at 2:00pm. I encourage you to take note of the information already provided prior to the alert. As this will occur during a break period at Rosanna Primary we do not see any disruption to teaching and learning.

Students have been provided with their school photo orders this week. We hope they are an opportunity to capture in time a glimpse of your child for the years to come.

Students have had a say in shaping the range of Clubs happening at lunchtimes and before school. Today, Breakfast Club and singing began, while Birding Club is scheduled for Wednesday 22 July! It’s great to get back to our rhythms of learning and fun. Keep an eye out around school for the refreshed Club program.

Student Leadership Ceremony - Semester 2 (Monday 27 July) All are welcome to join the special assembly to welcome the second semester Junior School Council Representatives and the Sustainability Agents. We look forward to welcoming Alison Champion, our Banyule Lord Mayor, who will share her leadership experiences and present students with their badges. Classes are in the process of nominating their class representatives. Parents of students who are our new student leaders are invited to attend a morning tea following the ceremony.
