From the

Leader of Year 7 Wellbeing

Miss Rebecca Hines

Welcome to Term 4! Year 7 has had a fantastic start to the term, and it’s wonderful to see them come back full of positive energy and ready to finish off Year 7 well. On a personal note, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Year 7, the staff, and their families for welcoming me back this term and for all the support, thoughts, and prayers during my time off in Terms 2 and 3. I’m truly grateful to be part of the St Aloysius community, and it feels great to be back.

This term, Year 7 has been working on The Resilience Project modules in Pastoral Care, focusing on emotional literacy. Developing our emotional literacy provides opportunities to understand and express different emotions. By improving our emotional literacy, we can better recognise and manage our feelings, which helps us cope with various life situations, such as resolving conflicts, making friends, handling difficult circumstances, and being resilient in the face of change.

On Wednesday, Week 1 of this term, Year 7 had the opportunity to go to Taronga Zoo and study the animals. This helped us with our science unit for this term ‘Classification and Biodiversity’. We had the chance to attend both the bird show and the seal show, where we learned about the habits, habitats, and breeding programs of the animals. Year 7 also got to walk around the park and educate ourselves on all the enclosures. Different students all had their favourite, whether it was the comical size of the capybaras, the loud and chaotic nature of the chimpanzees, or the well-trained, obedient, and adorable appearance of the seals, every student liked at least one creature. However, the day was not just fun and games, because the grade also got to learn how we can help preserve wildlife and protect habitats. Overall, the day was a fantastic (and fun) learning experience for all the students.
