From the Assistant Principal

Dear Parents,

Class groupings for 2025

Teachers are currently meeting to plan new class groupings for 2025. This is a lengthy process and takes a number of factors in consideration. Teachers use their own professional judgement, as well as educationally-informed data and their vast knowledge of your child’s social and peer group dynamics, when considering the placement of students in classes, as well as academic ability, social and emotional learning needs, behavioural needs and cohort dynamics. Your support and trust in this process is greatly appreciated. Some students will be disappointed that they may not be in the same class as all of their friends, however, there will be lots of other opportunities throughout the day to work across the grade, with other teachers and at all break times.

Teachers, at the end of this year and at the beginning of next year, spend a considerable amount of time speaking to their students about friends and learning partners. In a class, a learning partner might often be a better option than a friend or friends as having a qualtiy learning partner will assist in developing shared knowledge within the classroom and build a good knowledge base. Some teachers have asked students to nominate 3 friends and 3 learning partners they would like us to consider when planning classes.

In Weeks 9 and 10 students will be involved in a transition process where they will get to know their new learning spaces, grade expectations and meet their new teachers.

As per previous years, no teacher requests will be taken.

If you are not returning to St Patrick's in 2025 and you have not notified us yet can you please inform the office on info@stpsutherland.catholic.edu.au

Leaders for 2025

Leadership carries with it an important responsibility to serve others. As young leaders, students at St Patrick’s Primary School are encouraged not only to develop their own leadership skills but also to inspire and assist other students to do the same. We believe good leaders develop leadership in others.

Our student leaders at St Patrick’s aspire to:

  • Uphold and promote Catholic values
  • Demonstrate pride in the school
  • Make a positive contribution to their school
  • Being a role model for other students by upholding the school rules
  • Show initiative and demonstrate organisational skills
  • Communicate effectively and be able to speak to an audience confidently

Over the coming weeks our Year 5 students will nominate to be leaders for 2025. Of course, not all students can be leaders, but collectively our senior classes uphold all of those qualities at all times as all students are expected to show leadership qualities and be role models to others.  We look forward to welcoming our student leadership team for 2025 before the end of the school year.

Have a great week,

Jim Heelis
