What's Happening in the F/1 Classroom?

Literacy

In Literacy we have been focussing on the long & short vowel sounds for i & e. The students have been given words with each of the vowel sounds to sort, written sentences containing a combination of each and encouraged to look out for each in their reading and use correct letter formation. The childen are continuing to develop their understanding of sentrence structure, ensuring that they begin with a capital letter and finish with a full stop.

Numeracy

In Mathematics we have continued to work on Subtraction. The students have used pictures and objects to model Subtraction and have even used themselves in equations! We asked the students to stand up if they had a jumper on or had black shoes for example, and as a class we wrote a matching Subtraction sum. We have also integrated technology into our Numeracy sessions this fortnight, with the children experiencing several games involving Subtraction, that can be adjusted to each child’s individual needs.

Special Visitors Day

We had the most beautiful day celebrating our special visitors last Friday! the children loved showing their family members and friends around the school, attending Mass with them and doing activities such as bracelet making, interviews and painting.

Farewell Miss Maddy

On Wednesday we had a little farewell party for Miss Maddy who will be going on maternity leave very soon. The students were treated to cake, lollies and chips, watched a movie and finished the day with a dance party. We would like to wish Maddy and her family all the very best with this next chapter, we are already looking forward to meeting your new bub!
