Scotsburn Parent Meeting tonight
A reminder that tonight we are holding a Scotsburn Parent Catchup tonight, 6:30pm in the old building, at Scotsburn. This meeting will provide us with a chance to go through lots of end of year arrangements for Scotsburn as well as discuss some current happenings at the campus. Our Bunnings Sausage Sizzle will also be a major agenda item. These meetings also provide an important opportunity for parent feedback and questions, which we value so highly, to continue to develop and improve our amazing campus and community.
Kinder Transition Program
We have our last kinder transition day this Friday. It is wonderful to see our three new Preps for 2025 walking in the gates and classroom with greater confidence and excitement in starting school. The next phase of our transition program will be Mrs. Anderson visiting our new Preps at their kindergartens and our orientation day on Tuesday December 12th.
Our New Sustainability Shed
In the coming month, we will be holding an official opening of our Sustainability Shed with the Community Bank Buninyong. We will let everyone know when this is happening so that we can have some members of the community in attendance.
Fresh Produce Cupboard Community Book Library
Last week, we were able to acquire a structure that we will use as a community cupboard for freshly grown and produced items as well as a community book swap library. This is something that we have had in mind for quite a while, and something that our school community has suggested would be a great addition to the campus. We are really excited to get this off the ground. We will now put Mrs Morgan and her Art team to work to paint it up and put the finishing touches on it.
Bunnings Sausage Sizzle
Scotsburn has a Bunnings sausage sizzle fundraiser booked in on Sunday 17 of November at Delacombe. This will be a major fundraiser for the campus, with much of the funds raised hopefully going to fitting out the Sustainability shed, as well as upgrading some other projects in the yard. In the next few weeks, we will be sending out a roster for volunteers to add their names to. We would really appreciate as much help as possible on this day.
Buninyong Community Playgroup Visit
Last Friday morning, we also had another visit from the Buninyong Community Playgroup. We always love welcoming these guys to the campus, and this visit was no exception, having a Spooky Halloween Disco. Some of our Scotsburn students popped in for a visit and a play, which was lovely! We look forward to welcoming them again later in the term.
Enrolments for 2025
If you have a child or know of someone who has a child to enrol in Prep for 2025 at the Scotsburn Campus, please see Ana for an enrolment form, go to the office at Buninyong or access an enrolment form via our school website.
Scotsburn Parent Volunteering Roster
Please see the link below for our new Term 4 Parent Volunteer Roster. We would love to get back into the swing of things with our parent volunteering routine, and with such a busy term ahead, all help would be appreciated. If you have any time available to help out, we would be very grateful!
Scotsburn Parent Volunteering Term 3 2024
Family Groups
Last Friday, we kicked off Family Groups for Term four with lots of excitement. In Cooking, students made some delicious arancini balls and fresh blueberry and chocolate muffins. It is wonderful to see the students really getting involved with following recipes and trying food they would not necessarily eat. In Sustainability, our team of motivated students attacked some yard clean up, as well as some mulching around garden beds and the pirate ship at the front of the campus. After some hard work in the sun, we played some team building games, with a focus on cooperation.
SC1 Learning Snapshot
Week three flew by and here we are in Week four. Last week we in Reading, we continued on our journey reading about Australia and discovering and learning about some of the amazing places around Australia. It is lovely to see how excited students are when they recognise a place they may have visited or a landmark they would love to visit with their family. We have also had a big focus on reading comprehension and understanding that when we read, we are doing so to learn information. Whether this be fiction and understanding the author’s purpose and the story they are conveying or non-fiction texts to learn real life facts. When reading at home with your child, some great questions to ask could be:
“Tell me the important parts that you just read about?”
“What makes the book interesting?”
“Did you learn or see any new words or facts when you were reading?”
In Maths last week we learnt about Chance and Probability. We had some great discussions, and everyone was able to determine the vocabulary needed to answer the posed questions. This week we have moved on to learning about money and the excitement is high! We look forward to sharing our new learning with you all.
For the next three weeks we have Emilee joining us in SC1 from Federation University. Emilee is a second year pre-service teacher and is looking forward to all the experiences a classroom placement has to offer. We know she will thoroughly enjoy her time here at Scotsburn getting to know all the wonderful students.
As always, we have lots happening throughout the term so please reach out if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Ana and Hayley.
SC2 Learning Snapshot
After a few super busy and fun weeks in SC2, it was nice to get back into the classroom and some more familiar routines. Last week we spent some time applying our learning from both the 5/6 Halls Gap Camp as well as the 5/6 Sovereign Hill experience. Although our Grades three and four did not attend these excursions, they were still able to immerse themselves in the learning, particularly in the area of Shaping our Nation and how the gold rush period affected how we live today.
In Writing, students in SC2 have been developing their persuasive writing skills, which is always fun. We are putting a big focus this week on sentence and paragraph structure, as well as having three strong arguments.
Our work in Maths this week has moved onto looking at timetables and map reading, with us completing some practical examples of planning journeys and reading timetables. Your child will be able to plan your next family trip in no time!
The term is certainly flying along!
Have a fabulous week,
Jarrod and Liz
Scotsburn Intercampus Travel
At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.
We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.
If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
