What’s Happening in Careers?

Whats happening in Careers?

Year 10

This week in our MyPath class, the Year 10 students practiced their interview skills to boost their confidence for future job interviews, whether for casual positions or full-time roles. We discussed the importance of presenting oneself in a positive manner and how to effectively answer the question, "Tell me about yourself." Students also had the chance to provide constructive feedback to their classmates. All notes for MyPath can be found on SEQTA.

Year 11

Welcome back Year 11s – we look forward to an information session next Tuesday with ‘Talk Money’.

Year 12

It has been nice to see some of the ATAR boys around as they prepare for their exams. This is the final stretch for them so its important that they keep their eye on the prize. If they are struggling with decisions about courses or applications to uni they are always welcome to drop in and speak to myself or Mrs Paduano. We would also love to know about the offers that the boys receive over the next few months.

Careers Newsletter

As we move into Term 4 and ATAR exams, there are fewer information sessions being held by the universities. The focus is now on how to accept a university offer, how to enrol in my preferred course or how to get university accommodation.

For information on these topics and more go to InFocus Careers October 2024.

With the summer holidays just around the corner, many of the boys are thinking of getting a casual job for the holidays.  Here are a few things to remember:

It is not WHAT you know but WHO you know. Before you jump onto online job sites, talk to your family, friends, friends of friends, go into your local IGA, deli, café, garden centre, shopping centre. That is where the jobs are, you just have to ask! Remember to take your resume with you and politely ask if you can leave it with the manager. Give them a few days, then follow up.

If you can’t find a job from your social network, head to Seek, Indeed and other job sites. Use the filters to find jobs you are interested in and close to you or a bus route. Apply for all those that interested in you, not just one job. Remember, you’ve got to be in it to win it!

Prepare a resume and make it a good resume that contains relevant information about you, your abilities and skills, any certificates you achieved at school and your contact details AND references.

Not sure what a resume should look like, here is one we prepared earlier
