👷VET Pathways & WPL
VET Pathways & Workplace Learning
This year we have had over 70 Year 11 and 12 VET students gain competency in either Cert II, III or IV. This means that the students will have an additional qualification when entering the workforce as well as being able to enrol in further education.
If you applied to TAFE then you should have received an email from me advising you of an offer – there were 5000 students who applied this year in Western Australia. Feedback received from TAFE was students who had work experience in the industry as well as excellent grades were the main factors to being accepted into TAFE. Over the next few months all the ‘pieces of the puzzle’ will align and hopefully have placements for as many students as possible.
Next year we have students completing additional qualifications in areas of Electrical, Carpentry, Automotive, Nursing, Education Support, Civil Construction/Resource and Infrastructure Work Preparation, Autonomous Workplace operations and Marine Biology. We are very excited to have students being accepted in Barbering, Podcasting, Animation, Horticulture
We continue our relationship with FEC with Business as well as having the opportunity to complete Engineering and Furnishings, with our own qualified D&T teachers as well as Certificate II Applied Digital Technologies and Certificate III in ICT for the first time! For more information please contact Vicky Pulford.
I would also like to congratulate all the Year 12 students who gain employment, whether as a casual employee or ongoing in an apprenticeship in 2025! Many of these students went through an intensive period of writing resumes/application letters, creating portfolios, phone, video and group interviews as well as medical screenings. We are super proud of your efforts and wish you all the best for your bright future.
If any past or current students require assistance in this process please feel free to send me an email.
WORKPLACE LEARNING
As we enter the last term we have Year 11 General students attending Workplace Learning as well as the Year 10 Industry & Enterprise students. Thank you to the students who have returned their forms – if they haven't been returned – please return them to me asap. WPL is an excellent opportunity for students to explore a range of industries allowing them to discover their passion or find another pathway.
Year 10 I&E students – Week 4 – 28th October until 1st November
Year 11 – Week 6 & 7 – Monday 11th to Friday 22nd of November
I&E EXCURSION
We had a wonderful excursion to Barminco this week with the I&E students – the students explored the pathways offered, application process and the future of mining in Australia. It was also great to see Lucas M (Class of 2023) who is heading into his 2nd year of his apprenticeship with Barminco. We would like to thank all our industry partners who continue to support our WPL Program as well as students entering the work force. Please send us an email if you would like to find out more information.
Tips for Getting an Apprenticeship
- If you want to work in a building trade you will need to travel from site to site. Get a driver’s license.
- Have an appropriate email address. Don’t put your school email address if you are about to leave school.
- If you change your phone number, let the potential employer know by email and by ringing them.
- Dress neatly for interviews in clothes appropriate for the job.
- It’s ok to be nervous.
- Research the business you want to work for. If you want them to be interested in employing you, you need to show you are interested in working for them.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback. This will help you in your next application and if another job comes up with this employer. Asking for feedback is hard but it will help them to remember you and they will know you are keen.
