Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Camp

Our Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh students recently embarked on an exciting journey to Murray Life Adventures in Torrumbarry, where they experienced a blend of adventure, resilience, and teamwork.

This camp was designed, not only to fulfil elements of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, but also for students to gain an appreciation of the natural environment.

The camp activities were both challenging and rewarding. Students took part in invigorating riding trails, set up campsites, and embraced the art of Tranjia cooking – learning valuable skills for outdoor survival.

Additionally, structured team-building exercises helped build trust, communication, and a sense of unity among the students, which was inspiring to witness.

Overall, this camp was an unforgettable experience, leaving our Year 10 students more equipped and inspired to pursue their goals. Well done to everyone involved!

Korin Gamadji AFL 9s

Earlier this month we sent a junior and senior team to compete in the inaugural Korin Gamadji AFL 9s in Bendigo.

Both teams adapted to the AFL 9s rules well and played in the spirit of the day - sharing possession of the footy, being inclusive of all players in the game and most importantly having fun!

Thanks to a display of great teamwork and skill, both teams made it through to the grand final.

While playing their respective grand finals on seperate ovals side by side each other - the rain began to come down! But that didn’t deter our players from giving it their all and both teams rose to the occasion and finished the day victorious!

Best players for the junior team were Jackson Butterworth, Arley Walker, Marlon Micalizzi and Munyari Johnson.

Best players for the senior team were Cody Walker, Jesse Johnstone and Hudson Kellett.

Everyone involved had a fantastic day participating in the first ever Korin Gamadji AFL 9s competition. We can’t wait to support this initiative again next year and hopefully defend our title!

State Athletics

On Monday, 17 October our track and field superstars travelled to Albert Park to compete in the State Athletics Championships.

It is a huge achievement to make it to state level and we are incredibly proud of the way our students conducted themselves against some of the best athletes in Victoria with grit, determination and St Joseph’s College pride!

In particular we would like to acknowledge the following students on achieving outstanding individual and team results:

Benji Carfoot: 2nd - 800m

Marlon Micalizzi: 2nd - High Jump, 6th - Long Jump

Harry Sly: 4th - Hurdles, 6th - Long Jump

Ky Henson: 8th - 800m

Mila Palmer: 8th - 1500m

Relay Teams:

Under 13 Boys – 5th

Under 14 Girls – 3rd

Under 14 Boys – 5th

LMR 7 & 8 Basketball

Four teams competed in Bendigo at the LMR Basketball Tournament on Friday.

The Year 7 girls started off strong in their first game against Victory Christian, with great defence in a full court press. Offensively the girls were also dominant up the court with Lucy Smith and Milla Ryan on the end of the fast break layups helping to lead the team to a convincing win.

In their second game the girls came up against a strong CMC team who put a lot of pressure on our girls. Milla Ryan and Sarah Head played strong down both ends of the court but the girls couldn’t quite get over the line. Best player of the day was Milla Ryan.

The Year 7 Boys played their first game against Bendigo Senior, where they were out matched in size but the boys made up for this in intensity. It was a close game coming down to the last shot which Arli Walker took responsibility for but it rimmed out resulting in a draw.

In their second game the boys came up against Victory Cristian College, where they were put to the test again. The boys never stopped giving their all but unfortunately they went down by eight points, placing them in a very respectable second overall for the day.

There were some great performances from Ollie Spring, Corey Pangrazio as well as Arli Walker who picked up best player for the day.

The Year 8 Boys showed a very strong defence with the full court press, picking off every pass and finishing well inside off the turnovers.

They started off slow in their second game and were down by six points at half time. The boys picked it up though from the jump of the second half, using the half court press to confuse the opposition, and some great three point shooting from Charlie Voss.

Charlie Voss and Will Hatfield were terrors on defence in the third game. Charlie Voss showed great determination, matching up with someone double his size and shutting him down effectively. Will also caused havoc, forcing turnover after turnover.

In the fourth game the boys put in a great team effort, displaying great chemistry and communication on defence, and a fast ball moving offence. Player of the day went to Keoni Anderson.

The Year 8 Girls started slowly in their first game and were caught behind after the first few minutes. They tried their best to come back but fell agonisingly short, losing by only two points in an action packed second half!

In their second game against a very strong SJC Mildura team, the scoring went back and forth throughout the game and with a minute to go, the girls were down by three points - a steal and a free point got them tied as the siren went for an amazing draw!

Best Players of the day were Lexie Howard and Tia Knight. Special thanks to Milly Morley for scoring.
