Ava Irwin - Equestrian

Ava has achieved an incredible amount of success in the world of equestrian this year.

In Term 3 she represented St Joseph’s as part of Team Victoria at the Australian Interschool Nationals held in Tamworth. It was an amazing five days of competition with Ava ranking 5th overall rider in the country in the intermediate section.

During the September holidays Ava was also selected to ride for Australia as part of the Australian Junior Dressage Team where Ava was crowned the winner of this international event!

Congratulations Ava and keep reaching for the stars!

2024 NSW Jack Newton Junior State Pennant Championships

A team of six junior golf players from RRGC have won through to the semi-finals of the Pennant Championships at Thurgoona on 24 November, where they will play against a junior team from the Yass Golf Club.

The team are representing the Western Riverina and District Golf Association. Their first match as a team was at Jerilderie on 10 August when they played and defeated Thurgoona from the Murray region. On Sunday 20 October, they competed at Gundagai against the highly fancied 2023 State Champions from the Catalina Club of Bateman’s Bay.

After finishing the day at three games all, it was up to the lowest handicapper from both teams to play the sudden death round. Archer Golding held his nerve and won the match. The team will now be competing in the semi-final match against Yass Golf Club at Thurgoona on 24 November. If successful on the day, they will progress to the final at Newcastle.

The team members are Archer Golding, Kobe Atkinson, Hunter Reid, Eden Thomson and Solomon Welch (all students of St Joseph’s College) Rhylee Chapman and Kayne Crompton.

Jobe Shanahan - AFL

While completing Year 12, Jobe Shanahan has managed some exceptional football this season, splitting his time between his home club Moama, the Bendigo Pioneers, AFL Academy representation, earning Under 18 All-Australian selection for the Allies in the National Championships, and proving he can match it with the bigger bodies at VFL level with Essendon where he kicked 11 goals.

Other accolades for Jobe this year include being awarded the leading goal kicker for the Bendigo Pioneers and named Half Forward in the 2024 RMC Coates Talent League Team of the Year.

Now that he has completed Year 12, Jobe has his sites set firmly on the AFL Draft on 20 November and we wish him all the best!
