Division Summer Sport Championships Achievement
Recently, we had a number of teams compete at the Knox Division Softball, Hot Shots Tennis and T20 Cricket Girls Championships.
T20 Cricket Girls Championships - 4th overall
Our Girls T20 Cricket side competed against a hard competition. Their first round robin game was a loss but they picked themselves up winning their second round robin game. In their final, the girls came 4th overall losing against a tough side. It was great to see the cricketing spirit of the girls, doing their best to score runs and bowl straight towards the stumps.
Hot Shot Tennis Championships - both teams 3rd overall
Both our boys and girls Hot Shot Tennis side gave it a fair crack at the Division Tennis Championships at Mountain Gate Tennis Club. Before the event, there were a number of students attending the training session before school to refine their racquet control and court awareness. The both teams won 2 out of their 3 round robin games and eventually won their final as a team. Both teams should be proud of their 3rd placed outcome on the day!
Softball Championships - Boys team : Runner Ups! Girls team : Premiers!!!!
Our boys and girls were undefeated in their pool games on the day, ensuring the score run and working together in the field to get runners out. In the finals, our girls faced our Wantirna District runner up competitor, Karoo. In an intense game, our girls had some strong hits which led them to a 20-15 victory. Congratulations girls on a stellar effort and advancing to the Regional Softball Championships! The boys made a valiant effort in the final but the bitterness of defeat with a 1 run loss gave them the runners up position. However, I am glad to say the boys skills and teamwork under their coach was impressive!
Eastern Regional Softball Championships- Girls were 4th overall
On Monday 11the November, our girls softball team competed at the Regional Softball Championship. In the days leading up all girls made a commitment to attend before school training sessions to refine and better their skill and talk through team game plans.
The first two pool games were great starts with a score of 15-5 in the first game and 15-8 against the second team. A strong batting performance from Anysia, Olivia H and Milla E gave the side the extra edge to score runs. Some risky running with sneaking a second base provide a good advantage as well to score. In the third pool game, our girls stepped up to the immense challenge of versus a school team of softball players. All girls hit big in this game and teamwork in the field gave the outs we needed. However this game was a 24-22 loss.
Our girls matched up in a major semi final. There were some nerves going into the game and unfortunately the momentum didn’t go our way. In the end our girls lost by 2 runs.
This led our team to play in a 3rd place playoff, each girl cheered each other on to perform their best. A stellar effort by Bianca with her pitching in the second innings getting 5 strikeouts in a row. However, the other team had some large hits scoring multiple runs. In the end our girls lost the last game ending up 4th overall.
We are still so proud of our girls for their effort and amazing sportsmanship on the day! Out of over 150 schools across the eastern metropolitan of Melbourne, our St Simon girls have ended up the 4th best in the area! A mighty achievement and congratulations! You are all a shining example of determination; with practice and grit you can achieve great results!!
Eastern Regional Athletic Championships Achievement
What brilliant athletes we have at St Simon! On Thursday 24th October, 7 students qualified and ventured to Doncaster Athletics track to compete in their selected track and field events at the Eastern Regional Athletics Championships.
Their commitment to their athletic skill is amazing and it is an outstanding achievement making it to this high level of competition.

2025 St Simon Swimming Squad Trials
As Interschool Sport for 2024 comes to a close for the year, we are already looking into 2025 with formulating our St Simon Swimming Squad and conducting trials to select our team. These trials will be decided on the composition of our St Simon Swimming Squad. Students in our squad will compete at the Wantirna District Swimming Carnival in 2025.
These trials are open to students who are interested and confident in their abilities from Year 2 to Year 5. As this is a competitive team, children who participate need to be able to swim a competitive 50m distance with the correct stroke. The strokes students can try out for will be backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.
The swimming trials venue, date and time will be announced in the next newsletter and an Operoo form will be sent to interested students.
St Simon Interschool Sport Jerseys and Uniforms
We are asking if any child still has a St Simon soccer, basketball, AFL football or netball jersey or the St Simon team sport short (navy blue), please return these to the school office washed and cleaned as soon as possible.
Thank you!
