Year 3

Hello from 3H

What a great start to Term 4 3H has had! This was truly a term of hands on fun, learning and of course camp! The students we able to explore their strengths and face their fears on our Year 3 Camp this term. Many faced their fears climbing to great heights on the Giant Swing, or zoomed across the sky on the Flying Fox.

Students took on the huge challenge of leaving their families behind, for the first time and exploring the amazing grounds of the Philip Island Adventure Camp. The students got to experience how to bush cook, use team work to navigate around set obstacles and support each other on the rock wall challenge. However, a true highlight was taking a long walk to the beautiful beach, the students loved making sandcastles, kicking the football and digging water traps.

3H truly showed teamwork and support while on the camp. Students celebrated their team’s successes and helped those who needed support or a pep talk. 3H truly demonstrated the true meaning of our 5 values on this camp and even ate their vegetables at dinner time.

If camp wasn’t enough, 3H has also been learning and exploring the world of Narrative Stories. Students have been exposed to a range of incredible authors such as Aaron Blabey and Ted Hughes. Students looked at the Authors Purpose using PIE, to Persuade, Inform or Entertain. The also thoroughly enjoyed the chance to write their own entertainment narrative based on being ‘Trapped in a Shopping Centre’ or during some ‘Wild Weather.’

The students have enjoyed some hands-on learning in our maths classes, using a range of manipulatives such as blocks, dice, whiteboards and much more to explore the world of number. They have enjoyed presenting work answers, playing a mixture of interactive games and team/ partnered maths games. The students of 3H are becoming problem solving champions on the whiteboards and have enjoyed teaching others in their classroom different strategies to solve, show and explain a range of equations.

What a marvellous start to Term 4, and we still have our Senior Assembly, the coming Christmas Concert and the doors have been opened for Bike Ed in the coming weeks. Could we ask for a better Term 4? I don’t think so! We can’t wait for you to see where the last weeks of the school year takes us next!
